I played this well:
I was playing dubs at a local course. Bombed a huge forehand off the tee parking the hole, started walking to my lie, stepped on a root, and thought I sprained my ankle. Turns out it’s broken.
On the DL for 6-8 weeks
Ah, yes! The question that has eluded me for many (many!) years. I get the foot work, balance, arm motions, etc.; but I've never locked into what exactly happens in the last, say 6-12" of the throw. Does the disc pivot on its own? Is it pulling the nose around? Is it a fling? Is it a...
+1 to this. While I haven't thrown Rocs in quite a while, my experience is the same. Also, per my anecdotal experience, DX wears more evenly, especially if you're in a rocky area like, say, Central Texas or Arizona. My KC Pro Rocs had a tendency to get big chunks taken out of them when...
In ye olde days, I used to carry 3-4 of the same mold in different states of wear. This was a time when there was really only Innova, Discraft, and Gateway (and some off-shoots like DGA and, later, Discmania). These days, there are so many molds in great plastic with (mostly) better...
Go play in Central Texas or the greater Phoenix area. The rocky terrain will beat your discs in short order
+1, newer discs seem way more resilient than Star/Champ/ESP/etc. plastic from 10 or 15 years ago. I pretty much have to square up a tree at full send just to get a scuff mark
Good point. If you just hold a disc loosely in front of you, then grip it hard, you can see that it deforms pretty easily even fairly stiff plastic. When I clamp down, my thumb pushes the wing down some. I would imagine that could create wobble if it shifts the axis enough
Are your s-lines the Colton Montgomery signature series? I have a couple of those and a new stock stamp CD1. The CM discs are definitely flippy, but the stock CD1 will barely turn over if at all. I have a c-line from the mystery box but I haven’t thrown it yet
That's my thought. Get the index finger in a powerful position and the other three fingers are somewhat along for the ride. The others are there to support the disc and help control the nose angle
Ricky's grip and the extension grip seem like a variation of the Climo "split-fork" grip. The...
I would imagine that run up speed and cadence is highly personal and there's probably not much to glean from it other that what that individual needs to maintain cadence, brace/balance, explosiveness, etc.
I even vary my run up round to round based on how I'm feeling. Sometimes I'm thinking...
I don't use my range finder often. I do find it helpful converted ball golf courses, though. There's usually enough… stuff in the landscape to get perspective. On open, converted courses, 325' seems to look like 225' to me
Playing in a tourney today on a wooded course, probably not going to...
I would disagree with that. Kristin Tattar and Missy Gannon use theirs frequently on coverage. Big Jerm and Uli are always using theirs on practice rounds. Gannon Buhr was using his on a recent skins, IIRC. I think they use them quite a bit. In a lot of cases it’s their caddies using them if...
Assuming we’re talking about elevation from a flat tee, for example, that’s how I approach elevation. It’s a little easier to throw uphill, IMO, since I can get on my back leg. Down hill is harder, IMO, since leaning over the front foot down hill makes for tricky balance
The OG leopard mold was an absolute workhorse for me for years. I have a couple of Barry Schultz champs, I think. It’s a disc I’ve never found a great replacement for, especially with all the 3/x/3x molds that superseded it
If you see a plain-ass leopard in the wild, grab one. They’re fantastic
Not necessarily, and I think it has something to do with gyroscopic precession or whatever TF that Pete Ulibarri video was demonstrating. My understanding is that wobble is evident with the axis of spin isn't the center of the disc; nose up or down can still be on-axis. A better example is...
[piping hot subjectivity coming through]
I think it's the measurement I have a quibble with. I have absolutely no idea what my arm speed is, and I honestly wouldn't have a strong frame of reference if I did. I do know that I can throw a DD3 at 100% around 425' - that's useful to me...
