Now I know my ABC 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 13, 2021 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

+great beginner course
+Innova Pro 28 baskets
+easy to navigate
+hole 9 is a pretty shot over a pond
+only $2, clean restrooms on site
+lots of benches
+great design, lots of variety of holes
+decent amount of shade on several holes

Cons:

-does not drain particularly well
-only one set of tees
-flat, except for the pond hole which has an elevated tee

Other Thoughts:

Acadian Baptist Center DGC is a really good but pretty short course. A good place to introduce new players to the game.

The course designer did a really good job of making each hole interesting and different: There's a 200 foot straight and tight hole, a 210 foot turnover hole, 220 foot hyzer hole, 230 foot straight and not as tight hole, a 280 foot open and straight hole, an easy par 4 and a hard par 4, a shot over a pond, tight woods holes and not so tight ones. You'll use a lot of different discs.

Best to avoid this course after a heavy Louisiana rain as it can get mushy, muddy, swampy and puddly. But when dry it's a quick 18 that won't wear anyone out.

The Noise From The Shotgun Blasts Was Kinda Unnerving! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 15, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

The ABC DGC is set up behind the huge Arcadian Baptist Center. The ABC looks as though is has everything from a school to a sprawling summer camp across the street to tennis courts and ball fields and a gun range by the 14th tee pad.

The course also transverses everything from meadows to small jungle like fairways, over a swamp and up your alley. The signs, when available, are nice colored showing the route map. The tee pads are rubberized mats mostly covered in pine needles. The yellow Discatchers have the # on them and are easy to spot in these thick woods. There are benches and garbage everywhere. Navigation was fairly intuitive even without a map. The course plays at a solid recreational level. Intermediate players and above won't be bored here but I don't think they'll find much challenge either.

The course has some tight and technical holes, some more open field throws and the one short, over the swamp shot. The # 9 over the swamp hole only needs about a 175' carry but it gets in your head as this is really a skunk, nasty, green swamp. Who knows what lies under the green scummy stuff?

Cons:

Signs were missing on 4, 8, 9, 10, 15, and 18, I think.

The swamp lurks on your left most of the way down on # 8.

Misquitos were ravenous today.

# 6 was a pretty silly hole. It must be about 600' down a double S curving narrow fairway.

Other Thoughts:

About the time I was playing # 5, I starting hearing closeby shotgun blasts. At # 10, I realized that I was walking towards these blasts and starting getting a little nervous. I shouted out a warning but got no response. Walking up to # 14, I hear a car starting up. As the young man was pulling out, I asked him if he was the one shooting and he said he was. At least, I wasn't going to get blasted. I see there is a small gun range right there. Playing early on a Sunday morning, I hadn't seen anyone around and so didn't check in at any office or anything. I'm a poor enough putter without nearby shotgun blasts going off just as I start my putt. Airball!

Fun Variety 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 5, 2017 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Well-marked tees and trails. Variety of shots, with a few ace runs, several tunnel shots, and 1 or 2 wide open drives. Wide and fair fairways even with all the trees. Most baskets can be seen from the tee box. The course is well maintained.

Cons:

A few of the tees were missing signs, but I think they were being repaired. There are a lot of banana spiders in the more wooded holes, and if you get off of the fairways it's a jungle you are dealing with.

Other Thoughts:

I'm from the west coast so I wasn't used to the humidity, and one of my friends lost his disc in a pond. We had a great time and I will probably play this course again if I get the chance.
