Chillicothe needed a casual, beginner-friendly course

A few long walks

This is a currently 20-hole course around a VA campus, using space that was left over from other activities. It has a number of mature trees, lots of open space, and a few long walks, including one going across a few roads, from the front portion of the park to the grass behind the buildings. The first nine holes use yellow-rimmed Discatcher baskets, and the remainder use Dynamic Discs red-rimmed, blue coated baskets. Presumably, this will turn into a 21-hole course, as there's a stretch of open field from basket #20 back to the parking area that looks more or less begging for one more basket. Most of the holes are fairly open, which means that on a brisk day, you'll need to factor in a stiff breeze.

This is a course I really wanted to give a better score to. Chillicothe needed a casual course, and while Bad Apple does fit that bill, it's also packed around a very heavily used park—in a good disc golf course, the obstacle list should not include non-golfing bystanders!

Unfortunately, this course didn't work out for me. It was difficult to determine why, but I think it's because so many of the holes felt like filler holes—the ones put in because you didn't want to have a long stretch of walk from one of the really good holes to the next. There were a few reasonable holes in the back portion of the course—there's more favorable terrain in the back area, and I wish they had put a couple fewer holes in the mid-section of the course, where there's a lot of back-and-forth, and done more in the back portion.

If they course owners are willing to do a bit of landscaping, there's potential to turn this into more of a course than it is—and given that some of the trees are showing signs of maturity, a bit of landscaping now is a really good idea, so that new trees can become established before the existing ones need to come down. However, as the course stands, I can't see this as being anything more than a course for locals looking for a bit of variety.
