Solid Option near Palmer and Wasilla

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 12, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Concrete tee pads
-Simple tee signs with relevant info, appears to be accurate
-Bathrooms available
-Variety of shots required
-DGA baskets, believe they are Mach III's....? Baskets in good repair
-Fairways well maintained

Cons:

-Course ends on opposite side of ball fields from the start
-Could use better "next tee" signage
-Mosquitos were crazy, but not surprising
-A road is in play for a few holes
-Don't believe any water available

Other Thoughts:

Fun course, but our experience was limited by incredible swarms of mosquitos. Some groundskeeping would greatly improve the course, but overall a fun and challenging course that played well for all skill levels. Worth the short trek outside of town.

The Valley's biggest course 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 7, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- new baskets
- less fairway overlap than the Little Su
- uses changes in elevation to add challenge
- hard to lose discs
- bathrooms on location

Cons:

- tee pads: uneven, unregulated, full of roots
- tee signs are lacking in both quality and quantity
- confusing layout after hole 9
- some fairways lack a line
- bugs, not anyone's fault.
- bland
- the course ends hundreds of yards from the start

Other Thoughts:

I wouldn't necessarily call this a full 18, seeing as how it uses a few holes from the original short 9. It looks to be an add-on course that's still in it's early development. The flow of the course is easy enough to follow until you get to hole past hole 9. At that things get confusing. If I'm not mistaken 10-12 of the Big Su course are the same holes as 3-5 of the Little Su. From there 13-15 are Big Su exclusive holes and 16-18 are shared with 7-9 of the Little Su course. Better signage would defiantly help in this portion of the course. I like that this course has much less fairway overlapping than the Little Su. The new Mach 2 baskets looked good as well. They did a good job using differences in elevation to add challenge too.

The teepads are natural with a thinly spread layers of wood chips. Most are uneven and are obstructed by roots. Many tees are short and favor a stand-and-deliver throwing style. There's not much fairway room and not many true paths to the baskets. Thinning out the fairways would better shape the narrow fairways. The tee signs, when available, are laminated sheets of paper with the marking the hole number and distance.

I liked the Big Su more than the Little Su. Hopefully they keep up the course developement. The rating would be higher if they fixed a few things.

Update: Not much has changed in 2 years. The fairways still could use more definition. Too many random tree trunks clogged where the supposed route leads to the basket. Early on there were tee signs nailed to trees near the tee pads, but it they disappeared halfway through the course. Concrete pads were a nice improvement even though they shorter and narrower than I would have liked. The mosquitoes were ferocious.
