Big B's Orchards 2+ years

Pros:

My Three Pros:

- Nice location with a U-pick it orchard, farm fresh ciders, wines and ice creams; camping onsite amongst the orchards and occasional concerts performed for the outdoor seating area. The outdoor area as very dog and kid friendly. The orchards themselves are very pleasant and the surround valley is very scenic.

- Nice professional level Veteran baskets. Very shiny, and looked very new and only lightly used.

- Very quick and easy making for a fast play through for those who are not staying overnight.

Cons:

My Three Cons:-

- Grass tees are marked by wooden stakes and small orange flags. The loop is fairly obvious but the wooden stakes are what have the hole # written and can only be read once you are at the tee - hopefully you walked to the right one! This issue only came about because I didnt have a map, with a map this is much less of a problem.

- The course plays in an area completely devoid of any trees. The only obstacle to contend with is a dirt mound with a basket atop on hole #3, and the same dirt mound obstructs the view of basket #4. Otherwise the challenge will be in accurately gauging the distance to each basket out in the wide open. All holes are generally 300 ft or less; many much less.

- Plays in a pasture so there's some long grass and horse/cow poo to watch out for. The disc risk is pretty low but the long grass could hide discs easily if given the chance.

Other Thoughts:

We stopped in to Big B's for the orchard picking and once I saw the baskets I knew I had to investigate. The workers at Big B's I asked didnt know much about the course so I assume it must be pretty new and/or seldom played. The property has quiet the camping facility in addition to the farm so I assume the course was installed to give campers another thing to do. With that in mind the course does a great job of giving customers a quick 9 basket loop that can be played with the whole family. Beyond that the course leaves alot to be desired in terms of challenge and would greatly be improved by moving the course to the tree'd areas of the property and adding concrete tees - signs - maps etc.

For someone driving the long trek between glenwood springs and delta this makes a wonderful stop for drinks and a quick round. The camping onsite looked pretty awesome as well with accomodations for all sorts types of campers. I noticed that Udisc indicated another 13 basket private course directly next door that is not listed on this site and I could not stop by to confirm what Udisc showed.
