Nice little 9 holer 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 13, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice tee signs which include a picture of where to find the basket and the location of the next tee.
Nice tee pads.
Nice baskets, although I'm not sure who makes them, but they do have the hole number written on them.
Nice park with well cut grass on a nice neighborhood.
Nice placement of baskets to utilize the space in the park.

Cons:

Pedestrian traffic is a factor since this nice park attracts a lot of interest. The signs tell you not to throw discs when people are in your path. Every hole has the potential for people in your path and this is risky when you think the people on the path are out of your range but then you grip lock and your disc goes where you don't want, near people, and they give you a funny look.
There is only one hole over 300 feet, which is number 8. So you won't get a chance to air it out on this course.

Other Thoughts:

One pedestrian I spoke to told me that the course has a lot of activity, even though I was the only one throwing plastic there at that moment. He said they just had a tournament there, which was easy to see since there were white circles painted around the basket to show whether the players got inside the circle. The boy scouts designed the course and the course map has a picture of the scouts involved. We need more boy scout projects like this, which gets their family and friends involved in the sport. Although it's a decent course it's not a 4.0 rating. I don't even think it deserves a 3.0. Anyway, it's worth a stop if you're course bagging. In my case this was state number 27.

North Bloomington Park DGC 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 30, 2019 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The grass. I don't mind playing in sage brush once in a while, but I do get tired of constantly looking for my discs on most of the courses in southwest Utah.
The course is shorter, which is just fine for this old fogie. Trees come into play on every hole, which has helped me hone my accuracy a bit. Some holes favor a backhand, while others are more sidearm friendly. Helps a beginner develop different shots.
Can easily be played with three or fewer discs. Even I can do it.

Cons:

The park can get busy. I've had to skip a couple of holes before due to people playing near or in front of the baskets. There is also a dog near the basket of #1 and tee pad of #2 that has escaped his yard twice within the past 3 months while I have been playing. Had to call animal control the first time as she wouldn't let me past. Really surprised when she jumped out the second time about 3 weeks ago. I was sure they would have taken her away. Just be careful as there always seem to be dogs here.

Other Thoughts:

Despite the dogs, my favorite place to play in southern Utah. I don't even bother with the courses in Cedar City. Way too far above my level. I play this course every time I find myself in St George during the winter.
Always well maintained, though the grass can get long in the fall.

North Bloomington Park DGC-best in St. George 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 28, 2018 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Challenges/Pros:
• Mature trees clustered together and/or with some low hanging branches increase difficulty on multiple holes.
• Nice mixture of holes favoring both forehand and backhand drives including some longer nearly wide open drives with pins sheltered somewhat by trees.
• Good cement pads and signage.
• Pedestrian walkways affect some fairways so take care to avoid people.
• Wind can sometimes significantly affect play difficulty.

Cons:

Opportunities for Improvement:
• Moving the one pin (#2 I think) up out of its prior location may have been an error as it was more challenging where it was originally.
• Signage should be improved to guide players from pins to the next tee box i.e. #8 to #9, in particular.

Other Thoughts:

Perspective: Intermediate level, Master's 60+ player with low to intermediate arm strength.

Course Details/Info:
• 9-hole course plays around the periphery of North Bloomington Park.
• A paved walking path borders and crisscrosses portions of the moderately wooded course.
• The 1st tee box is to your left as you park in the small parking lot.
• Course is organized in a somewhat figure-of-eight fashion.

Summary of Rating/Play:
• Very appropriate for Masters 50-60+, beginners, intermediate adults, younger players particularly if one wants to work on curving drives, tight fairway drives, approach shots, and putting.
• Probably the best overall course in the St. George area (except for the Pro-level courses in Cedar City) although you do have to watch out for pedestrians.
• Overall, I would rate this as a "4" course.

Big thank you to the Boy Scouts for their hard work!
