Easy beginner course drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 15, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

Easy beginner course, hard to lose a disc here. Mostly open fields so might be a bit boring for advanced players

Other Thoughts:

Hole 4 missing its tee sign

Golf course feel. Good intro course. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 5, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice baskets. Course was manicured like a golf course.
Signs featured hole distances
Course is a straight forward par 3 with little to no obstacles. The perfect place to bring a beginner.
Course was so simple my 5 year old completed the entire course, she probable shot an 87 for 9 holes, but it was so short and easy that she finished.
They try to make use of a few hills, but the land is mostly flat and wide open. It looks and feels like a golf course.

Cons:

Hole 1 has you walk all of the way back, the entire length of the hole in order to play hole 2.
No real tee areas, except hole 3's rubber pad.

Hole 5 throws directly at the road.

Hole 6 has a small chance of disc loss on the left and behind the basket for newer players. Low risk for experienced players.

Other Thoughts:

There really was a Blue Heron on the course. You can easily play this course in a very short time and be back on the road. However there is not much else around.

There are several geocaches on the site that my wife was able to search for while I played if you are into that kind of thing.

There is an Frozen custard place across the street for a post round treat.

2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 22, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Very beginner friendly.
-Nice course for a quick warm up round or practice.
-Low foot traffic.
-Fairly close to The Apple Farm.

Cons:

-Virtually no challenge for skilled players.
-No signage. Tees are marked with orange flags staked into the ground but are not numbered. Have access to the course map found in the Links/Files tab.
-Multi-use Park. Low foot traffic, however there is a walking/cycling path throughout the course.

Other Thoughts:

Course is great for new players, kids, or if you work close to the park and want to get 9 holes in on your lunch break. The short wide open layout isn't going to punish or discourage you in any way.

Skilled players will find joy in birdie collecting. A 20-minute stop here will have you nice and warmed up for a round at The Apple Farm.

Elements of the park (Pond, Hill by hole 3) could have been incorporated into the course design to add a bit more difficulty. Hole 1 is the most guarded hole on the course. if you can throw a straight putter shot off the tee you'll have a look for 2. All the other holes have nothing but atmosphere on your way to the basket. One could add difficulty by playing the rough to the left of holes 6 and 7 or the swale on hole 9 as OB but neither are marked as such on the course map.

As stated before, the course serves a purpose for beginners, but will not offer much for experienced players.

Beginner Friendly 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 29, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Well manicured course, easy to find, baskets in good condition, quick playing, not crowded, beginner friendly to the max! Fun to play win beginners and unfamiliar discs.

Cons:

Tee pads are just flags. Virtually no obstacles. Little variety.

Other Thoughts:

Great place to try out new plastic. No fear of losing a disc here, might fall into the "creek" but easily retrievable.

Good Field Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 14, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Easy to find
- Not Crowded
- Perfect for trying out new disc
- Quick Play
- Beginner friendly
- Well kept course

Cons:

- Short
- No tee pads
- Hole #3 hooks to the left, which is not clear and ended up loosing a Boss to the mucky creek thinking the basket was straight out.
- Very little variety

Other Thoughts:

Overall I would have to say this course is a fine example of a park with more of a purpose now.

No this isn't a course I will come to often, but I will say it is a good course to work out kinks in your game.

I ran into a local player that really was new (just over a year) to the sport by still was finding the course a fun way to spend his mornings. No, if you live an hour away I would not make the drive, but if Canandaigua happens to be in your plans, stop by and add another notch to your belt.

very meh, 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 11, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

free and well manicured, reasonable place to take a new player

Cons:

Really easy, if you are looking for a challenge this most likely wont fit the bill

Other Thoughts:

good place to introduce a newer player or try out some field skills with high quality baskets, but the course itself feels an awful lot like throwing the same shot 9 times

Good Practice Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Nov 21, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course is set in a well manicured park in an area that isn't likely to see much in the way of other park traffic. There is a walking trail through a portion of the course but the area is otherwise dedicated to disc golf with no picnic tables, soccer fields, etc.

Cons:

Virtually non-existent obstacles. This is field golf.

Other Thoughts:

All of the holes on the course are pretty short and if you're a fairly decent player chances are you won't have to pull out anything more than a mid-range and a putter to make your way around. Hole #9 had a creek in play which added some interest to the hole but otherwise it's just a wide-open field hole like most of the other ones.

Given the land that was allocated for the course, it's about as good as it's going to get. If you're new to the sport, this is a great place to learn since it's impossible to lose a disc. If you live in the area it would make a great practice area.

That said, you're reading this review to find out if the course is worth stopping at. Unfortunately I'd say it's not really worth going out of your way to play here. If you're passing by already it will take you all of 20 minutes to make your way around if you just want to get another course under your belt. If you have limited time and are a more serious player, the Apple Farm is a much better option and is about 10-15 minutes away.
