good school course, but not great 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 27, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course in Tillamook is a fairly long course, especially for being on school grounds. There are extensive fields and this course plays around or through all of them.
Tees are marked on the paths and pins are good quality. Signs are well made and informative. The main thing this course has going for it is lots of space and they used it. As mentioned, amenities are great here, I played in middle of summer and water and port a potty was available.
I liked 12-15, def the most interesting holes throwing into the woods on the south edge of the grounds, but they were all pretty similar shots. Designers missed an opportunity.

Cons:

Fair number of cons here. It is flat so most of the shots are long open throws to the pin. 3 and 6-8 have some more challenge but unfortunately it is a fence to private property, one of my least favorite types of challenge.
With it being a school course there will be large limits on playability especially with the 1st 4 holes going across or around baseball fields. Trying to play spring and fall may be tough.
Last, Wind. I know this is a valid challenge for a course but with the open layout there is no protection for 1st 11 holes and the onshore winds can be brutal. I learned on a windy course and found this a little much.

Other Thoughts:

This course has alot of what I'm looking for in a course, but unfortunately the sum is less than the total of the parts. It was ok for a break when traveling through on a summer day but will be looking hard for a better alternative when I next pass this way.

Bohannon Disc Golf Course Is One of The Better School Courses I've Seen! 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 8, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Built of the campuses of Tillamook Middle School and the neighboring East Elementary, this is a fairly, well designed course with excellent amenities, most of which you never see on any school course. These amenities include a nice sized course sign and map which is attached to the middle school's wall near # 1, asphalt tee pads when the walking path or concrete play area aren't used, Dynamic Disc Veteran's baskets and lots of navigational help.

The course begins on the east side of the middle school by the bus zone and plays around the school's athletic fields in a counterclockwise direction for the first 11 holes. At hole 12, you are directed to cross the street and then holes 12-18 play around the backside of East Elementary School.

The course is totally flat with almost no trees on the middle school part. Challenges include a few neighborhood fences. Distances range from 115' to 388'. There are three holes in the back nine that play off into the wooded area. I thought they were probably the most interesting holes on the course. I liked 13-14 and 15. There are signs here asking players not to climb over the neighbor's fence to retrieve their discs.

Cons:

I have concerns with hole 7 which is a 90-degree dogleg around the fence and walking path. This could be a possible safety hazard as you're throwing blindly into the path. Plus, discs will find their way over the fence into this neighbor's yard.

Flat, open terrain on the middle school.

Not available during school hours or certain athletic events.

Long walkout from 11 to 12.

Little building on hole # 12 is fenced and could grab a few discs.

Other Thoughts:

I liked the amenities here like the wood chip walking path on # 15, next tee arrows, etc. You seldom find any extras helping us players on school fields. This is a nice solid course and there's no competing courses around here for 25 miles. Unfortunately, the terrain is pretty mundane which left the course designers little to work with. They did remarkably well for what they were given and I compliment them for their efforts. We all applaud their hard work and as a traveling player, I appreciate their navigational aids. But in reality, what's here is a nice, playable average type course.

great short course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 12, 2020 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This is a great introductory level course. New veteran baskets, asphalt T pads, and great signage. A few holes close to 400 feet, but most are manageable for beginner players. Back 9 uses the tree line very well. a fun short course

Cons:

A little short foe experienced players, but leave the drivers at home and work on the short game!
