A surprisingly great course and a long walk

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 14, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

Beautiful course, long and scenic and sometimes wooded, but not unreasonably difficult. Lots of elevation changes and tree obstacles to test your shot making.

Cons:

Not really a con for me, but you need to reserve 3 hrs to play this one...there is a lot of walking btw some of the holes. Tees are maybe a little short for people with long run-ups.

Other Thoughts:

We had a great day playing Bond; we knew it would be a 4-mile walk and a lot of throwing, so we packed extra fluids with us. Super good signage and course maintenance. Not a lot of other park users on the course. We are sensitive to poison ivy and saw just a little bit on the course.

Western New York Escarpment Offers Great Holes and Views

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 29, 2022 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Long blue tees. Great elevation changes. Mix of wooded/technical and long, open holes. Well maintained and most holes not shared with other traffic.

Cons:

Remote location.

Other Thoughts:

This is really a fantastic course and a good challenge for me from the white tees. People complain about the walking, but I like to walk--a full 18 is just over 4 miles. The sheer variety of holes and beauty of this course make it worth the drive. Epic holes give opportunity for bomber shots, but not all the elevation is downhill. Uphill shots add difficulty. Water adds interest but not so much difficulty. The rough to the right on #18 is epic and must be full of lost discs.

Best WNY Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 4, 2021 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Great views of the area from a few different points on the course, as it's on the Niagara Escarpment.
-Great variety of hole types. From wide open, to very wooded, to a few mixed holes. There's a few holes for every play type, which keeps scores within a group close, even if there's differing skill sets within it.
-Nice Prodigy baskets, very nice blue and white tee pads, "greens" and paths between holes have wood chips to keep it tidy, even in spring.
-Signage on course is good, you're rarely left clueless as to where the next hole is
-Very well maintained park & course overall, lots of parking, easy to find.

Cons:

-No red tees, kind of a bummer for my wife.
-Bit of a trip from surrounding metro areas, if you consider that a negative (I don't, but thought it should be mentioned).
-There are a few spots where it's a decent walk between holes, especially from 4 to 5 (which is the most confusing part of course navigation- head back across the parking lot), and from 7 to 8 (great view/break spot on this "hike" though!).
-Would have liked a little more use of the elevation available, but this is a minor gripe.

Other Thoughts:

This is the nicest course I've played in the WNY area. I'm a pretty OK player, so I go from the whites, and the course is definitely challenging, but not so overwhelming that it's not fun. I'm very pleased with personal best +5 on this course, I don't know that I could ever score under par, to be honest (and that's OK). I could absolutely see this being a pro-level course from the blue tees, some of the shots from there would be very demanding.

A very solid Bond! 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Nov 21, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course is how every course should go in. The park's department just didn't approve putting in a course, they did some serious work to develop an absolute destination course.

The designer didn't try and force holes to make 18 in a certain amount of space. He took full advantage of maybe 45 acres of land all said and done to create some really amazing shots.

Part of the course takes advantage of an old ski hill providing some amazing elevation changes. There is a good mix of holes requiring finesse and other holes that you better have a cannon arm.

The design is almost like two courses on top of each other. The shorter course around 5,300 feet is still quite challenging and then they're blue tees which is truly meant for 1000+ rated players and rounds out at about 8,000 feet. (Just walking the course is three miles. We're talking almost the equivalent lengths of a ball golf course.)
The signage is not only spot on, but also has excellent directional arrows to guide players not to just the next hole but even to the hole's blue or white tee.
Freshly minted Orange Prodigy baskets are easy to spot in some of the more wooded holes and each tee has turf tee pads.

Hole six has been referred to as throwing from Top of the Moon. From the long tee, players throw from the top of the old ski hill to a basket about 850 downhill, with a pin tucked hard left. The thrill of watching your disc have about an 8 second hang time was an absolute rush!

Much of the back nine play play near an old rock quarry that flooded one night back many moons ago. It's now a quiet lake that provides some additional great views.

Cons:

Ok - time to be petty lol - a few things that would make this one of the best of the best.

Only two sets of tees. There really should be rec tees as well. The course setting is simply amazing as it sits along the Niagara Escarpment offering panoramic views even being able to see Toronto 45 miles away across Lake Ontario. This course needs rec tees to make it more inclusive for your beginner/rec players so they can take in some of the beauty (and challenge) this course offers. Take a new player here and they may never come back it's that challenging. (conversely they may come back the next day it was such a challenge for them.)

Even though I gushed about the Top of the Moon hole, (imo) the pin is tucked too far to the left for someone who wants to go for it in two shots as there are some heavy woods along the entire left side of the hole. There's risk/reward. This would be more like risk/suicide if a disc overturned and careened into the thick woods. Going for the pin in two would not be smart unless you have the arm & accuracy of McBeth.

The walk between 7 and 8 is a quarter mile - or said differently - roughly 5 minutes. Another hole could have been placed there to break up the walk, yet in the grand scheme of the design, it's not that bad.

Hole 16 - now this could be an awesome risk/reward shot as the pin is located at the beginning of a peninsula. If it had been placed even half way to the end of spit of land, it would have golfers really pondering whether to go for it or play it safe.

Holes 17 and 18. Nothing really unique about them and they feel like they were placed there simply to get the players back to start of course. Playing 18 was just one long slight hyzer. Throw, throw, throw and then putt. Missed putt putt again.
Getting back to your car is about another 5 minute walk. Again not terrible, but if you just had a bad round it feels like a walk of shame.

And while there are turf tee pads. They just don't have the lifespan of concrete. If the park replaces turf every few years, this won't be an issue.

Other Thoughts:

Easily one of the best courses in New York - not just Western New York. This course could easily be used for an A tier event at some point.

Having a disc have longer hang time than an NFL kicker's best boot is awesome - hole six "Top of the Moon" provides such a rock star feeling that alone makes it worth the visit.

In the warmer months, make sure to bring some beverages as this course is designed to really work you. It makes use every shot in your bag and every muscle in your body.

Any disc golfer heading to Niagara Falls for a visit has to swing by and play this course. You won't regret it.

Excellent Course

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 25, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

- lots of very scenic holes
- holes required every kind of shot
- very doable water holes
- great signage at holes and directional signage between holes
- excellent use of elevation
- excellent mix of open and wooded holes
- lots of long holes to appeal to the longer throwers out there but manageable for the average player if using the white tees ( not really good for beginmers)

Cons:

- turf tees as opposed to cement. We played in dry weather and they were fine. I do not know how they would be in very wet and muddy conditions
- lots of the holes seem very spaced out and there is lots of walking to get to the holes ( not as bad but similar to a course like black diamond which is another course in the area)

Other Thoughts:

I really enjoyed the white tees on this course. I feel they offered me everything the course had to offer but at a more manageable distance for an average player like me. I was able to finish the course with a satisfying score and also I wasn't completely tired out at the end of my round. Meanwhile the friends I was playing with could play at the blue tees and get the extra distance they love. Even though we were playing different tees, I still felt part of the group. I also felt every hole had a unique and pituresque design to it. Finally this course at either tee would not be a good course for beginners

One of the Best in Western New York 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 23, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

The incredible variety of holes, the scenery, great tee pads (two sets, turf), tee signs, and baskets.

Plenty of length on this course from the back tees.

Well thought out and wonderful course design that challenges but doesn't punish.

Front Nine: Two "top of the world" downhill bomb tee shots (#1, #6), two sharply uphill holes (#4, #7), baskets and tees tucked into the woods, and three beautiful wooded holes (#7, #8, #9).

Back Nine: More traditional park golf than the front 9 and less elevation change. One tee shot over water (#17).

Cons:

1. Hole #17 along the lake has had cars parked and/or people & dogs in the fairway as the population isn't accustomed to the course being in place.

2. A few longer walks (hole 4 basket to hole 5 tee; hole 7 basket to hole 8 tee, and over a third of a mile walk from 18 basket back to main parking lot by first tee).

Other Thoughts:

This course is an easy 4 star right out of the gate; it should be 4.5 stars once the course is worn in a bit (which shouldn't take long as the course has already had a lot of play in the first few weeks) and there are less issues with the general public on hole 17.

A great addition to disc golf in Western New York!!!
