Warmup course, but still good in its own right

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 16, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

The Pink course, overlooking its big brother literally but not figuratively, sits near the parking lot and is relatively easy compared to a certain other set of 18 holes in the area. A few tees sit on wooden formations, the pro shop is always nearby, and despite being in the woods a little, this course feels mostly casual.

For starters, this course has some good tunnel shots. Holes 1, 4, and 9, and to a lesser extent holes 5-8, reward players who can throw straight. Some are uphill, and some are downhill, so distance control is important, as is knowing your skillset to know how far your discs will fly.

Several holes provide different ways to get to the basket. Hole 1 has the tunnel line and a wide, but risky, RHFH/LHBH line. Hole 6 has what looks like a normal fairway, but also another line on the left. Hole 7 has gaps no one has ever taken, probably, and holes 5 and 8 only have one primary line but different places to test the edge of the fairway. Hole 5 is by far the hardest hole on the course.

The point is that despite not being a destination course, this is worth anyone's time. There's good challenge, and even for the holes that will feel pitch-and-putt, you'll still have a lot of fun and might recall some upshots on the Blue course reminding you of teeshots on the Pink course.

Cons:

Most holes are pretty short. The first four holes are relatively easy, and while they all provide different challenges, they're really straightforward if you have a certain shot. Even hole 3 has a mando to try to squeeze all nine holes on the hilltop, but is really gimmicky. The tunnel shots on hole 1 and 4, while cool, aren't really all that difficult if you figure out the right shot.

In addition, a lot of the holes at the top of the hill, the more open ones, aren't the longer holes, which means they're significantly easier than the rest. Even alternate pins would help here at least for variety. The opportunity for a long par 4, or some wide S-curve par 3's, wasn't used here. Granted, that wasn't the point of this course, but this course certainly didn't get the quality it could have gotten (if we ignore the Blue course).

Then the last few holes don't really fit in with the rest of the course, though they do give a hint of what you'll see on the Blue course. Hole 7 should probably have a tree cut down on the fairway somewhere to give a better line at the basket. I personally think hole 5 is a little too hard, but a drive that gets all the way there would be really rewarding.

Other Thoughts:

Holes 4 and 9 share a teepad, which isn't ideal, but at least it's a cool place to tee from and has 20 feet of benches.

I would like this course to expand a little farther into the woods (there should be room away from the Blue course), which would allow a par 4 or two to exist here. Or maybe a par 4 starting in the woods and ending out.

This isn't worth $10 to play unless you're also playing Blue, but if you're already on the property, I highly recommend an extra nine on this one. Is the package of 27 holes worth $10? Check out the Blue course to find out.

Good Warm-up Before Blue 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 30, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Good tee pads and signage. Holes 1, 4, and 9 have a turf mat on wooden decks. Holes 4 and 9 play from the same tee.
-Quick and easy flow to follow and short hole lengths.
-Great beginner and kid friendly course with enough technicality to make it interesting enough for seasoned players. A couple of mandos add to the challenge, but overall the course isn't very difficult.
-Slight elevation changes and tight lines to hit on the second half of the course.
-A few good ace run opportunities.
-The pink baskets are highly visible and numbered.

Cons:

-All of the holes are pitch and putt in length. You will only need midranges and putters for the majority of these holes.
-Hole 7 is a poke and hope hole, which are a pet peeve of mine from a design standpoint.
-Although there are a few challenge aspects to the course, it still isn't difficult or much of a stand out 9-hole.

Other Thoughts:

This was a decent 9-hole to loosen up on before tackling the blue 18-hole. Fun, but nothing spectacular. It's definitely not worthy of pay-to-play if you are only planning on playing the 9-hole. The blue course is not kid or beginner friendly at all, so that is another thing to take in to considetstion. The course feels like a little bit of an afterthought after playing the blue course.

Warm up for the awesomeness of the blue course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 11, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Well laid out. Great tee boxes, three of which are elevated.

Cons:

This course is only worth the play if you plan to play the blue course.

Other Thoughts:

Disc golf only destination. This is not a family friendly destination. There is nothing for young children to do while adults play a round.

Not a destination course, but next to one! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 11, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

-next to the Blue course, and perfect both for warming up the arm and getting oriented to Branson Trails disc golf
-also well designed, but obviously not intended to be as challenging as the other course
-friendlier to non-hiker types than the other course; not quite as rugged
-good introduction to the property's theme of wooded lines on slopes (e.g. hole 7's slight left to right slope gave me a gentle intro to what can go wrong when your backhand turnover doesn't turn over)
-good baskets, pads, and signs (holes 4 and 9 share a tee pad on a wooden platform with turf grip)
-never gets too far from the parking lot, making it easy to get back to the car or facilities (I headed back to the car for my snacks and to make some last minute disc switches for my bag)

Some hole info:
1-4 were the grassiest and most open holes of the property's 27; trees encouraged lines but you could probably throw around some of them if you wanted to

5 was Pink's "signature" hole, with a fairway that sloped down under some overhanging branches before sloping gently back up to the basket

6 & 7 were in the woods with the shale hillsides so typical of Branson Trails terrain; trees left obvious lines while punishing errant throws

8 was an uphill shot with a shot-altering ceiling and some well-placed trees

9 was straight to the basket, beyond a ~10' gap in some trees placed about 75' from the tee; basket on surface sloping up to the right

It's possible I messed up some of these details, but this ought to tell you that even after a couple nights of sleep and after playing the ultra-memorable Blue course, I still remember my 25 minutes on Pink.

Cons:

-only nine holes, with several pitch-and-putts
-unless you're a local, it's probably out of your way; plan on playing twice or playing Blue as well
-there wasn't a course map online at the time I played, though signs and trails made navigation a piece of cake

Other Thoughts:

I played this in about 30 minutes before starting my round on the property's featured Blue course. The first four holes were fairly short and fairly open, but still had nice lines to hit and required diverse shots. After that, it ventured back into the wooded hillsides. These last five holes were the perfect orientation session before playing Blue.

Rating discussion: 2.5 for "Decent/Typical." Just 9 holes, some of which are very memorable but most of which are ordinary. It wets your appetite so that you're ready for more. Fortunately, it's right next to its awesome big brother course, and it felt like it was intended to be both a warm-up and introduction to the themes of the Blue course. I'll definitely play again when visiting.

Perfect 9-hole 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 13, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Easy access near Hwy. 248 & the High Road.
Baskets are sturdy and new.
Concrete tee-pads.
Property is very maintained and taken care of, free of debri.
Tee-signs are very informative.
Holes are unique and elevation is nice.
Novice/family friendly.

Cons:

Nothing negative that comes to mind on this course.

Other Thoughts:

It shares the property with an 18-hole course, they are separated by basket colors. The pink course is at the top of the property. It's a new course in the Branson area and definitely worth a trip to play. Bring water to stay hydrated. The variety of the holes is great. They also have a disc shop on site where you can purchase discs.
