This Ain’t No Campground Course! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 25, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Brooks Memorial State Park Is located about 10 miles north of Goldendale on US 97. For what it's worth, US 97 between Goldendale and Toppenish is a really fun twisty, mountain highway, perfect for some hi-speed driving. The park is a mostly small park primarily with wooded campsites.

The question in my mind is "Who in the hell is this course designed for?"
When I think of a campground course, I envision 100' holes in a woodsy campground setting, with families playing, probably in flip flops. That is not the case here. The course is not necessarily long but it sure doesn't play in a campground. The course starts in the small area on your left as you first enter the park. The area it plays in is in an undeveloped area that looks as though it might have been recently logged off. The first seven holes all play uphill. It's on a hillside which is unprotected from the wind, sun and elements. Flip flop wearing campers don't want any part of this course.

Cons:

The course is being built on a budget. The signs are homemade and not very readable.

The tee pads are pretty tough.

First seven holes, although not long, play uphill.

The fun factor is way down the charts.

I found two of the Discatcher baskets out in the back part of park. One basket had the # 17 on it. They were set in a wilderness setting and I had no idea what they were all about.

Other Thoughts:

This course misses it's target audience (campers) by about 16 Paul McBeth drives and maybe a couple of approach shots. I can't imagine any campers ever playing it. I can only surmise that the designer is a 20 year hiker/junior ranger building a course that he and his buddies can play.

The course area is better suited for white tail deer than for disc golf. Get your license, bring your rifle and you might bag your buck. That would be more fun than bagging the course.
