Good fun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 11, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Fun course. Some tight wooded tee shots that make you pick and hit your line. This course will put a premium on accuracy instead of power. Most courses in the area aren't as technical, so playing this course is a nice change of pace.

Cons:

It's pretty short. There are some holes with length when the basket locations are in the long positions, but for the most part you really don't need anything longer than a straight fairway driver and that's only on a few holes.

Other Thoughts:

Must be able to throw mids and putters off the tee and shape shots. It's short, but technical. You can't spray and pray here.

Same Great Amenities As The Cachuma Lake Championship Course! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 2, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

The Cachuma Lake Mohawk Disc Golf Course has just recently opened as of January 2019. It has all the same wonderful amenities as the first Mr. Cachuma Course. Everything that was done right at the other course here was done right here, as well. There is a $10 charge to get into the park but that gives you unlimited access to two courses. There is a nice big course sign complete with map. The tee pads are nice large trapezoid shaped pads. There is a practice basket. The baskets are pretty, orange powder coated DGA models with the hard to read red numbers. The signs are absolutely divine. They are a pretty green color with kinda of a different shape with a large easily read number, map and 3-5 basket positions. Each sign has a sponsor's information on it. There is always a bolt next to the current position. No guessing the distances here. There are large logs cut in half and laminated for the benches. There are brooms at many of the tees.

I must have read somewhere that this part of the park is the "old" campsites. I hope so or else the Mohawk course is in trouble because almost every one of it's hole seems to play through, over or under a campsite. If these campsites are still in use, these pretty orange baskets would have to pulled during the summer and other popular times as well.

This course is very similar to the first with it's length. Almost every hole is between 200 and 300'. Holes 10 and 11 both have their baskets set in this small rocky outcropping area which is really special, very beautiful. Other than the lovely rocks, the holes are just straight 200 footers. # 14 is a 247' hyser playing off the street but this is an excellent place for a restroom break as the bathrooms are just a few feet away from the tee pad.

Cons:

I think this course has some glaring Cons. At least three holes use the existing park streets as fairway. This would be hard on your plastic. Other holes play across picnic areas. I had to skip # 5 because a truck was parked right in line.

# 13's tee pad is right below what looks like park's junkyard. There are all kinds of old boats, derelict equipment of all sorts and building materials.

Lack of imagination in this course design. It felt squeezed in.

Other Thoughts:

Being this is a state park and so you are hereby dealing with a government bureaucracy, parking seems to be a really big issue. There are about three signs directing disc golfers to the proper and authorized parking area. The other course has the same emphasis on where we are to park.

This is a nice solid throw, nothing special but remember, it often times won't be playable. When you factor in having two playable courses on one site, this is not such a bad deal.
