Clinton Disc Golf Course Is Not As Advertised!

Reviewed: Played on:May 18, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

Gees, can someone connected with this course please update all the information such as the fact that it is now a full 18 hole course. As I was traveling through Clinton, I figured on playing this simple little 9 hole park course in 30-35 minutes. Also, someone on the course information sheet mentioned that the old # 7 is the new # 1. So I started there even though it didn't seem to make a lot of sense.

There are two large course signs on different streets leading into the park. One says Clinton Disc Golf Course. The other says Clinton 18 hole Disc Golf Course. The tees on the front nine are concrete but they are all too short. The front nine baskets are older yellow Discatchers while the back sport new red Discatchers. The tee signs give you all kinds of topographic elevation but the par is an add on. Many of the par numbers are missing.

The course longer than most 9 hole courses. On the front nine alone are three holes in the mid-400's and # 6 at 656' Par 5.

The back nine plays all over this good sized park, past the Armory, way out beyond the pool and probably up to suburban Kansas City, as well.

My vote for signature hole is # 4. It plays 453' over the small ditch to a basket set in the trees. It's just a very pretty hole.

Cons:

The front 9 tee pads are probably 2 to 4 feet too short.

I think the signs are too busy with all the elevation info on them. I don't need to know that there's a 6' elevation gain to that tree 200' in front of me. I think having the par on the sign is more important.

The par is shown on a separate piece of signage below the regular signs. Several of these are missing.

There's an old basket very close to the # 3 basket. I have to assume this was/is the practice basket but it's in a strange location.

Other Thoughts:

This is a nice park with some elevation to work with. It's length alone makes it an intermediate course. There's plenty of challenge here for most players.

It's a 3.5 rated course but as a traveling player passing through, I must protest, as is my right as an American Disc Golfer, and hand the course a 3.0 rating. God, I hope this course isn't being ran by a bunch of UDisc dip shits who don't want to do anything to further good ole DGCR. It that's the case, I might consider lowering my rating even lower.

Once again, please update all the needed information. Find someone who can actually draw a course map. Remember that not all those who play here are locals. Help us out!

Clinton Caper 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 15, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Clinton DGC is a 9 hole layout with attitude. Not a test that will send everyone who tries crying to their momma but it is a bit stern. There are concrete tees that are not full size. The tee signs are nice, and they're better than the ones pictured on the home page. Innova targets at each hole are working fine.

I found most of the holes to be a fair test. Most of them have distance, and there are trees that will knock down a throw that is way off line. A few of the pins are very near to clusters of trees or on hillsides that can punish an errant approach.

Hole 1 is one of the tricky pins that is surrounded by trees, and has a hill behind the pin. That second shot may be a doozy. Hole 2 is a fairly easy mid range shot with a mando, and few trees. 3 is long and doesn't have too many obstacles. 4 also has length, and plays across the creek bed under a few mature trees. 5 plays back across the open area toward the road, and will take navigating around a few trees. 6 plays along the edge of residential areas, with peoples back yards to the right. It turns hard to the right as you cross the downhill slope. 7 has a hard right turn and a mando on the corner, with an uphill tee shot. 8 will give you a nice run if you get around the tree right in front of the tee, and stay out of the back yards on the right side of the fairway. 9 drives over a road and has a basket under a mature tree as you approach the pin.

Cons:

There is an old basket near the pin of the current 3rd hole, and it seems like an odd spot for a practice hole. The the concrete tee pads are slightly shorter than normal, and I would have liked another step or two. The approach on the 6th hole has a direct look at the basket for hole # 1. Aim to the right of the basket that is directly in front of you, toward the road.

The street address on the home page will take you nearer to the third tee if you're using Google Maps. If you park next to the Parks and Rec garage, you're near the start. A couple of holes play next to or across roads that can get you a penalty if you miss the fairway.

Other Thoughts:

This is a nice course for a 9 hole setup, and offers a lot more challenge than a standard short course. There is a good bit of length, and trees that require shaping of shots from point to point. A couple of chances for birds here and there, with par 4's and 5's you can score on if you're on your game.

I shot a 34, which is +2 over par. There were multiple shots that I could've taken more seriously, and if I had more rounds I could get under par I'm fairly certain. I did get off course once or twice, and lost focus more than once.

Clinton is not a bad course if you're passing through. A great way to stretch the legs and break up a road trip. It isn't the best of the best, but it is good compared some of the ordinary 9 hole courses in small town parks.

Somewhere different to play! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 27, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

There was a good variety of long and short holes with some elevation changes.
They also had decent basket placement/good use of space.

Cons:

Dirt tee pads :(
A "creek" running through the park with 1 place to cross.
A couple of the holes play near the road(s) which could get your discs run over if your shot goes wild (you have been warned :p )

Other Thoughts:

This was my 1st time to play in Clinton. Minus the concrete tee pads, giant hills, and mando(s) it had a similar feel to the course at Swope Park. It was nice to be able to cut loose a little bit, not having to try and thread every shot through just the right place every time. I would totally recommend this to anyone wanting an open place to play without having to deal with a ton of trees all around.

Great Beginner and intermediate Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 23, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Great Course Design for a small town. 1 - 3 are good straight holes, then 4 is LOOONG par 5 dog leg to the right. 5 is a short uphill throw then dog legs to the right. 6 has a redesign, and is now going behind the maintenance shed of the parks department for a dog leg left. I do not think the signs distance is correct at this time. 7 is going back towards number 5 tee and 4 hole in some trees, 8 now has a tree removed that makes it a pretty straight shot at an uphill slant. 9 has had a tree removed to now give a more easier tee off if you've been hitting trees before. I always thought a bench placement under the trees between 6 and 7 would be a nice relaxing point. Instead there is a bench between holes 3 and 4 and by eight (same bench). It is a nice 9 hole course overall. Needs a walk through as any course does to know where the holes and tees are. Not to hard to find each one. Bathroom facilities are close to hole number 1 with a drinking fountain. Overall it is a good well maintained course by the parks department.

Cons:

Dirt tee pads, looks like maybe there was gravel at one time. The Creek does need more crossings.

Other Thoughts:

I hated this course at first, and quickly realized that not all courses are the same. Talk about total misinterpretation of courses and the game, but I am new to this sport and i am learning much and enjoying myself more and more.

Fun and Lengthy 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 12, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

I played this course while taking a break from a long drive. I didn't expect to find such a good 9 hole in a small Missouri town! The course is in a small park, yet every hole has really good length, except two holes which are under 300 feet. Several of the holes are over 400 feet including a couple of par 4s and a dog leg right par 5 sitting at just over 600 feet! The course makes good use of the elevation, trees, and a walking path as OB. While most of the holes are great ripper holes, there is still a demand for accuracy while navigating through the trees. The par 5 hole 4 offers some risk/reward with OB path running along the right side of the dog leg. Hole 6 plays dog leg right uphill around a mando with fenced off property lines as OB. The two short holes are excellent ace run holes with enough trees to still make them technical. Overall, this is a pretty solid course. Clean park with a playground, restrooms, picnic shelters, and a swimming pool with some water slides. Tees signs at every hole and course navigation is not an issue. There is a course map at the first hole, though you won't need it. Definitely a good place to stop for a quick round and good practice as no two holes feel the same.

Cons:

Dirt tees. No alternate pin placements or tees. Not enough holes.

Other Thoughts:

If this course could get some cement pads and some more pin placements I would rate this course a little bit higher. There seems to be room to add some more holes to the park as well. There is a practice basket near the basket for hole 1, an older looking discatcher sport.
