Pros:
Copper Mountain doesn't have a whole lot to brag about. I agree with previous reviewer markmcc that the designers actually did a nice job with this course considering the hand they were dealt.
First with the positives.
I liked the way some signs were mounted to the boards on the tees. They look good and they probably hold up to vandalism, as well. The baskets are these single chain, Freedom brand. I don't trust them.
The views from many places but especially the # 8 & 10 tee pads is especially beautiful, with the city of Butte and the surrounding mountains all around you.
There a couple of fun throws to be found. # 2 was a fun one, 297' across a gully and then up a hillside. At least # 13 had a little danger and some personailty It's 271' downhill with an OB fence behind it.
Built on an old landfill, the course plays around this large multi-use park. The park has football fields, softball fields, children's play area and it appears they're constructing a new college girl's softball field. How about spending some of those Title 9 funds on the disc golf course? There must be a couple of woman disc golfers in Montana.
I found the same problem as markmcc with the first hole. But I think the basket has now been placed at the bottom of the gully. Problem is the tee pad faces due north and this new # 1 basket is kinda NE.
Cons:
Start with these horrible tee pads. Not only are they rough, slanted and dangerous, I would like to know why the course designers decided that 8' x 8' pads make more sense than say, 6' x 10' or 4' x 12'. These allow no room for run up.
The grass is just long enough and just thick enough to be really annoying. Every disc that lands in this stuff is just a little difficult to locate. That got really old after a hole or two.
I found two many holes requiring the same throw whether it was 335' downhill or 275' uphill. # 11 & 12 are both about 275' and slightly uphill.
As lovely as the surroundings are, the course itself is just plain unattractive. Plus players are trying to revert it back to it's garbage dump days by leaving a lot of litter behind. Pack it out guys. And there's only one garbage can on the course on # 7.
Other Thoughts:
It's pretty frustrating to get towards the end of this course and you walk by three football fields with beautiful, lush green grass, which is used for about three months. Meanwhile, the disc golfers are relegated to playing on this ugly, annoying brown grassy area.
The course doesn't look like it gets much play. I assume there are better options around Butte for the disc golfers.
