Cottonwood Creek

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 7, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

-- Baskets.
-- Likely good to practice approach shots, if it's available.

Cons:

-- Plays around the school building, so there are safety concerns galore. Part of a walking/trike path forms most of the fairways for Holes 1 and 2. An OB fence is also within 15 feet of those two baskets. No. 3 has a permanent soccer goal 30 feet short of the basket. No. 4 basket is 8 feet from the corner of a building. After four very short holes (159-219), you've got a 608-foot finishing hole. It plays RHBH anny around the building and through just about every obstacle possible: soccer field, playground, covered outdoor pavilion and basketball court.
-- Cheap Recruit baskets. Some are already rusting.
-- Not available during school hours. Given the proximity to the neighborhood, I wouldn't be surprised to find people using the playground, etc. during other times.
-- No map.
-- No tee signs or tee pads. Just play basket to basket.
-- No water.
-- No restrooms.

Other Thoughts:

-- With no tee signs and no tee pads, I used the map on the app that shall not be named to play 5 holes.

Don't go here expecting a course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 22, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

Has 5 baskets
forces left to right or right to left type shots depending on which direction you play.

Cons:

No tee's marked, just 5 baskets around the back side of a school

Other Thoughts:

As the course is listed as a practice area, that is all it is. 5 baskets scattered around the back side of the school.

If you were to play this, I would just play from the dumpsters to the basket on the NW corner of the grounds, then throw counter clockwise to the next 4 baskets. Turn around from the 5th basket and throw backwards to the previous 4 baskets. This would give you 9 holes of left to right, then right to left shots, all under 200ft.

yea, not worth the time.

Would I play here again. Nope, already bagged it, no reason to stop by, if I lived next door I would probably still not even practice here as there is not enough room to throw a real drive.

Putting Education

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 5, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

Visibility like this helps to grow the sport.
+ adequate practice area for short game
+ appropriate place for kids to learn to play

Cons:

Every hole has hindrances with which to contend.
- targets very close to fence and alleyway beyond
- targets close to other playground facilities

Other Thoughts:

INFO
Baskets are set beside fence and along perimeter of school property in U-shape arrangement surrounding a walking path and playground.

EVAL
Obviously, this small "course" serves to introduce disc golf to elementary school kids and their families. The baskets are set far enough apart to provide a challenge for beginners to throw par, playing safari style golf throwing from hole to hole since there are no dedicated tees. Practically, this would only appeal to regular disc golfers as a practice area or as a quick warm up on the way to a nearby course.

The close proximity of baskets to the fence and adjoining neighborhood beyond could be a problem for shots which sail wide, especially since discs can pass through the wrought iron bars. The baskets are also close to school facilities so players should be careful throwing when others are present. There's little variety of shots, but at least trees provide a minor obstacle to keep practice rounds interesting.
