Creek Bend

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 24, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

-- Innova baskets.
-- Decent sized concrete tee pads.
-- Map at parking lot, near No. 1 tee.
-- Informative and complete tee signs.
-- Good land for disc golf, and it's pretty well used. Holes 3-9 have a lot of trees in play; there is no water carry, but a creek comes into play on 3, 6 and 9. Elevation is decent by Texas standards. And No. 2 (longer than 600 feet and open) gives you a chance to show off your big arm.
-- Quality bridges to cross the creek.
-- Best holes are 3 (344 feet) flat across a creek and then uphill through trees; 6 (526 feet) flat along the creek and through trees; and 8 (246 feet) open and downhill to start with a lot of trees for the final 125 feet.

Cons:

-- Safety issues. No. 1 has you teeing alongside the parking lot before your cross the driveway to reach the basket. More than 3/4 of the direct-line path to the basket is over the parking lot. More than half of the alternate tees (listed as hole 10-18, but clearly alternate tees for the 9 holes) are in danger from the other tee for the hole. Other tees also come into play. The worst is the danger of hitting someone on 6 tee when you tee from No. 3.
-- A few of the woods holes need a little more thinning to avoid the "throw and hope" feeling.
-- Baskets are not numbered. I played to the 8 basket from 6 tee and had no idea until I played 8. The 6 basket is across the creek and 60-80 feet back. Because 6 is longer than 500 feet through the woods, it's easy to overlook the distance discrepancy.
-- Mandos indicated on tee signs are not marked in any way on the course.
-- Tee signs are laminated thick cardboard. A couple are missing and a few others are lying on the ground near the tee.
-- No seating at tee pads.
-- No restrooms.
-- No water.

Other Thoughts:

-- Baskets 2 and 7 have drop-offs behind the baskets that are not visible from the tee. Short of the 2 basket is a depression that appears to be a retention pond, but it was dry the day after Thanksgiving 2023. If you've got water short and a drop-off long, that makes a really tricky approach shot.
-- The three longest holes on the course (2, 6 and 9) are longer than 500 feet, but the alternate tees (marked as 11, 15 and 18) shorten those by several hundred feet.
-- The course is on the property of First Baptist Church Midlothian. It's across the street from the main church building, next to the Student Center. Because of that, it's not open Sunday mornings or Wednesday evenings.
-- Park close to the building. No. 1 tees from the east side of the building; No. 9 finishes on the west side of the building.

Technical church course.

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 27, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

It has 18 signs and 9 baskets. Most of them have tee pads. The course is long for this kind of course and once you enter the woods its pretty technical. Beginners probably will not have much fun. If you have a big arm 2 will be fun. Then it enters tight forest and makes use of a creek.

Cons:

some of the tees from front 9 and back 9 dont change the hole enough.
