Nice start, fingers crossed we can keep it!

Pros:

I slightly pause to review my own course, but now having run and played a tournament on it I think I can be as objective as is possible for a designer.

The course is nestled in the woods of a former residential property now owned by Creekside Church in between Dallas and Cartersville you might think that you are lost since you have to pass a few residences to get there. The gravel parking area can accommodate about 20 cars and you walk about 100 yards down the path to the warmup area/hole 1.

The warm up area has a practice basket when in use and seating around a stone fire pit. There is also a pre civil war era cemetery directly behind if history is your bag.

The first tee is down the path to the right. Teepads are all natural for now and signs are paper, but they are accurate using rangefinder distances.

The holes vary from 205-305 feet winding through old growth hardwoods and steep uphill and downhill shots.

There is a small swamp in play on hole 5 and a creek to provide natural OB on holes 5 and 9.

Though tightly wooded, its lines are realistic for the most part and requires a variety of lines and shot types to score well.

Baskets are rented Innova Discatchers but only in place for events until we can raise funds for a permanent solution.

The hills and winding lines make it a physical challenge as well at around 1 mile of walking and 11 flights of stairs in elevation per 9 holes.

No one is probably going to say it's fair favorite track, but it's a great place to practice line hitting and getting in shape!

Cons:

The fact that it's not fully permanent yet leads to the majority of drawbacks. No permanent tees isn't ideal and the tee area for 5 and 9 are very slick and only allow for a single step when it's rained at all.

The navigation is mainly okay, but the walk between holes 4 and 5 is really long and harder to find than it should be since we had to pull a hole in-between them.

The biggest con is the fact that its future is not guaranteed. The church could eventually sell parts of the property and it may have to be moved.

Other Thoughts:

I'm proud of what I built, and hope we get to make it permanent. If not, I'm still glad that about 50 people got to come out and enjoy it.

The lines are fun, the woods and creek are beautiful and if we can develop it to the degree that I hope we can I believe an 18 hole course rating in the 3.5-4 is definitely possible.
