Pros:
A good pro is that there IS a course here, and with a couple exceptions, you can play from one hole to the next. I always want to be thankful of any private property that has a course available to the public.
They fairways look like they stay pretty dry, and get mowed regularly. So the course does get some maintenance, and I will even choose to believe there are people who care about it and take care of it.
There are a few bright spots here and there, at least bright given the context of the rest of the course. The first few holes actually get off to a decent start, making use of some of the hills, a couple trees, and not being that terribly short length you see on a lot of more intro courses. Some of these holes do push to over 400'.
Cons:
The cons are mainly in the form of I think all of the changes, and the compression this course as gone. I learned from the older reviews that there used to be 18 fairly decent holes, and now there are 9(?) holes, and more that stand out for bad reasons that good.
The "?" above is because as far as I could tell, there is no basket for hole 5, and holes 1 and 3 I think share a basket (that, or we're missing another one).
The roads and some structures do come into play a lot. Mainly as a side effect of the growth around the course, probably.
But overall there really isn't that much going on here. Not a whole lot in terms of obstacles or design, or challenge. It's a fine bagger course, but unless I was already on the church campus regularly, I don't think I would play this often.
Other Thoughts:
When I saw the overall rating of this course, i was really expecting a lot more. But after playing it I went back and looked at a lot of the reviews, especially the older reviews, esPECIALLY ERicJ's review, and see that most of the reviews no longer apply to the current accumulation of baskets and tees.
Again, I am grateful for the course being here. A rating of 1.0 is still better than there being no course whatsoever. And this certainly is far from one of the worst courses I've played in Houston area! (lookin at you B. Schmitz Park)
