Davenport Sport Complex Course Deserves A Better Fate! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 2, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

The small town of Davenport sits about 40 miles west of Spokane on Hi-Way 2. The little athletic complex is just outside of town and does have new restroom facilities, parking lot and two nice looking ballfields. The disc golf course probably doesn't merit any such compliments. It occupies a barren wasteland area slightly down and across from the restrooms. The lot that the course sits on has been graded, bulldozer style leaving lots of tough tread marks. There are no trees, some scrub grass, lots of volcanic rocks and just a bit of elevation. I think the wind would be a factor here. Unfortunately, it's just not a pretty picture.

The course starts here and loops back after nine holes at this point. The tee pads are very rough but do have a front railroad tie with a house number on them. There are no other signs. The baskets are single chain Freedom models with a number on top and then a flag flying higher yet.

Without much in the way of obstacles, the course is just a series of 250-400' straight holes leaving the wind as your greatest challenge.

Navigation is fairly intuitive. Factor in the wind and the course is probably no walk in the park pushover.

Cons:

No signage.

Very rough tee pads.

The terrain is not pleasant to look at or to walk on.

Very little in the way of obstacles or other obstructions to provide much stimulation for your round.

It's gotta be windy all the time.

Other Thoughts:

This course so reminds me of the course in nearby Deer Park. They both sit on such unattractive tracts of land. I'll repeat here what I wrote about the Deer Park DGC, that is; If I lived here, I would bypass this course and drive the 40 miles into Spokane and play any one of their fine 18 hole courses like High Bridge, Downriver or Camp Sakani Jamboree and that isn't even counting the other dozen courses available for play.

I do appreciate the time and effort spent planning and installing the course here. Unfortunately, the course designers weren't given much to work with. Building a first rate course on this terrain would be like asking Michelangelo to paint the Last Supper on the most beat down, crappy alley wall in Tijuana all while cartel gunfire is blasting away.
