2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 18, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

+Good baskets
+Concrete tees
+Course map and signs and each hole
+First few holes are challenging
+Alternate tee if you cannot throw over the water
+Shorter course that is great for beginners

Cons:

-No scorecards at the course
-The signs at each hole do not say what par it is
-The concrete tees are too short/small

Other Thoughts:

Lots of mature trees and some interesting holes. The river comes into play on hole #2 for LHBH and hole #4 for RHBH. The course gets boring after hole #9. Hole #12 is short, but you do have to go around trees. A good course to stop by if you are in town, but do not travel a long ways just to play this course.

15 Holes? 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 18, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Nice large map with parking area at first hole, however to someone out of town it is a little hard to find.
-Concrete pads at each tee-off.
-Nice baskets that are numbered.
-This course makes a perfect round so you end where you started.
-Two holes let you play over the river, which is more challenging for an amateur like myself than a professional. Don't worry, there are alternate tee-offs if you don't feel comfortable playing that part.
-Excellent for beginners especially if you live in the area.

Cons:

-15 holes? Either make it a 9 or an 18 holer. In this case it should have been 9. Because of this odd number the course felt crammed together. Unless the city of Dawson is hoping to expand its park in the near future and add three more to the west?
-The signs at each tee-off are nice but the par for each hole is not listed. We get that the Farmers of Dawson paid for the course, but skip the advertising and put up some useful information please.
-No scorecards available at the course. Someone informed us that you had to go to the City Building, which was closed that day as it was a weekend. You start near a picnic shelter so a box holding scorecards is needed without the par information on the sign.

Other Thoughts:

We ended up playing this course after a large storm rolled through the night before so there were large branches down and blocking the some of the course fairways. This actually added to the challenge and improved the game in my opinion. However, it is a nice course for a nice town. But, there are lots of improvements yet to be made such as par information added to signs, making scorecards available for evening and weekend golfers, and fixing the odd number of holes. But, a great start to a nice course for beginners!

City Park 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 13, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

+Concrete tees
+Nice baskets
+Nicely maintained park. It has some larger mature trees and grass that looks like it is cut often.
+Approachable distances for new and young players who will probably be the main demographic for this smaller town.
+Great signage
+Many ace runs
+Course loops back to where it starts.
+Big map at start of course.
+Alternate tees for when the main tee requires a throw over water.
+River comes into play a few times. You shouldn't lose a disc in there but it does add a bit of excitement to the course.

Cons:

-The flow isn't the best for first time players. You cross the river a few times and the highway once. It isn't bad once you figure it out.
-The land is very flat. No elevation changes.
-Pretty short course with not much variation in hole length. It is about 150-300.
-Most holes have a tree or two in the way but never really force and line or were very challenging.
-I would have made a slightly longer 9 hole course here if I were creating this course. 15 is a weird number and is kind of crammed in there.
-You could lose a disc in the river if you got really unlucky.

Other Thoughts:

-The course is really limited by the land that it's on. It is probably the best available in town. They did a good job with what they had to work with.
-This course is kind of out of the way but if you happen to be driving by on 212 you might as well stop. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way for this one unless you are a course bagger but it will serve the small town of Dawson well.

Fun variety, but short with too small of tee pads 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 26, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Interesting diversity of holes/shots.
- Five holes with a risk of OB wet.
- Good baskets, and good tee signs reportedly coming soon.

Cons:

- Concrete tee pads are about two feet too short on every hole (have to start X-step behind concrete pad).
- Hole 2 and Hole 5 need care on the tee to watch for runners and cyclists on path.
- Hole 12 basket installed in the wrong location...making the hole WAY too short/easy (barely a hole at all).

Other Thoughts:

Plays quick, with several good chances for deuce. It's short...only a couple of holes to really air it out. But it should be a good course for the community/region to enjoy, and the 8-9 other players (mostly Rec/Int, the primary audience for the design) we bumped into today all seemed to enjoy the course.
