Pros:

Before I state my opinion, let me preface this by saying that I played Deer Creek DGC in late August which is probably the worst time of the year to play this course. The grass is tall, brown, scratchy and dry as a bone.

So here's what I think. If I lived in Deer Park and I got the itch to play some disc golf, I would gladly drive the twenty miles to Spokane to play Downriver, High Bridge, the private course Rocky Ridge or my favorite, Camp Sekani Jamboree. What I would not do is even think about coming back to Deer Park.

I'm sorry but this piece of property is just a crummy, windswept expanse of desert grass and some catered shrub and small trees. The El Guapo baskets are beautiful with their Blue/White or White/Blue color combination. Someone has started work on permanent tee pads by digging out the pads and actually building some frames, although the lumber used is probably not heavy duty enough. The problem is, this work has obviously been done quite a while ago and it looks like the project has now stalled.

Cons:

The problems here are serious and they are many.

First, this area is probably always windy.

If it's not mowed, the grass just gets too high.

In summer, the grass is too tall, too dry and crispy. It's absolutely no fun to trudge through it. I'm afraid the course might burn down.

Too big to mow everything.

It appears that there might not be a lot of support, either from a disc golf club or maybe a rec department to see this course develop to it's peak.

Other Thoughts:

I hope whoever has been instrumental in the development of this course can try and convince the (city fathers, rec department) or whoever that this is just a terrible place to put in a course and these beautiful baskets could be better utilized by finding a better park to place them. Good luck with that as this might just be the premiere piece of disc golf real estate in all of Deer Park. If that is the absolute, my advice would be to pack up and relocate to Malibu.
