Private Course Open To Everyone! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 26, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Disc Golf Pugwash (Love the name!) is on private land but is free to play. The piece of property is flat but features three distinct terrain types; open with scattered trees, a wooded area and a wide open field area. There is also a small pond which comes into play on holes 13, 14 & 15.

The baskets are combination of Discatchers with the yellow rim and an older model, which I'm not familiar with, divided about 50/50. The tee signs are simple poles with the hole number on it and a red dot painted on the pole. The red dot points right at the basket. There are no tee pads to speak of, just worn spots in the grass, mostly. I think # 10 pad did have a front board.

There were five holes playing over 300' with the longest being # 13 @ 380'. It's slightly downhill with a fairly narrow fairway cut out of the tall grass and the pond lurking behind.

There was a tournament going being held on the Sunday morning that I showed up to play. What a friendly bunch of guys! Had about 15 players out and everyone was willing to help give me directions or just chat. Very impressive, especially considering they were the midst of a tourney.

At the corner of the hi-way and Miller Street, about a 1/2 mile away from the course, there's a sign that says "Disc Golf". Nice!

Course was pretty easy to follow as one of the nice local fellows gave me a Pugwash Golf Course map.

Cons:

Natural tee pads could use some work.
Mix and match baskets.
Stomping through tall, wet grass. Wear gaiters or gore tex boots.

Fairly mundane course set up but this is the only basket course within .....what?.......50...60...miles? That's like being the only girl in a remote logging camp in Alaska. After awhile, she starts to look awfully good!

Other Thoughts:

If I lived in Pugwash, would that make me? A Pugwasher? A Pugwashinton? A Pugwashee? A Pug? Whatever they would call me, I would be out here with this group of wonderful guys playing in their tourneys and playing this little course on a very regular basis.

Great Start 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 1, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

18 holes, all with baskets. Nice mix of shots, short technical and some open bombs. Water feature. Basket of discs provided at the first tee.

Cons:

Signage was there but difficult to follow at times. No defined tee pads.

Other Thoughts:

See the previous comment about contacting the course designer. I missed him this time but I plan on returning. This is definitely a nice course and has huge potential.

Solid in an area that could use more courses 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 28, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Free, intelligent course design, very playable for beginners and challenging shot choices on some holes for more advaced players, some ace chances and good birdie opportunities. Decently marked holes and well maintained fairways. Also very friendly course designer who may even offer to meet you there to play a round!

Cons:

A little out of the way, and not super easy to find. Definitely call the contact (designer) before you head out he gave great directions to the place. Tee boxes could use a little work but still better than a lot of courses I've played.

Other Thoughts:

I had an opportunity to play this course while in the area on work. Beautiful drive out to the area had me dreaming of more courses that could and should be made in this area. Doesn't take too long to get through nine holes. Had a little trouble finding all the Blue tees on the second pass through. Be very conscious of the wind in this area and proximity of the road on the first three holes. Would love to see some more of the forested holes foud along the back of the property. Great little track though, had a lot of fun trying to find the right shot to use on a couple of holes and some very reachable wide open shots on others.
