The town needs to hire a professional 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 24, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

it's on town land.

Cons:

this was designed with no regards to safety to other players or park-goers/hikers.
Most holes in the woods play along a hiking trail or cross the trails. No professionalism in the design aspect at all.
This needs a professional eye to completely overhaul and make the course worthwhile and safe for all.

Other Thoughts:

I literally walked off of this course after hole 5 because of the indiscernible design and the lack of safety.

Fun, short, wooded course 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 23, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Very good design considering the course is set on a small network of pre-existing trails in a small park. It's clear that whoever made the course understands disc golf and how to make holes interesting with obstacles, topography, balancing wooded and open shots, ace runs, avoiding poison ivy and thorns, etc. There wasn't much space, but the designers did well with what they had.
-It's pretty much impossible to get lost because of the good signage.
-The first tee is easy to find (as long as you enter from Kendall St. and not Taylor St.)
-Great baskets that are easy to see and catch well
-It's free
-Ample parking
-I imagine there are never crowds here
-There is no walking from baskets to the next tees, so you can play a round VERY quickly
-Plenty of ace runs and birdie opportunities.
-Nice woods. No thorns or poison ivy.
-There are no other courses within a 20 minute drive.

Cons:

-Several holes are under 200 feet. Most long holes are par 4 or 5 (or 6!) that play down narrow trails in the woods. Not ideal disc golf.
-The fairways are tight because of all the woods. This would probably frustrate many new players. And the course isn't challenging or interesting enough to appeal to advanced players.
-There are no tee pads. There are signs that show you where to go and they map the hole, but it's not clear exactly where you should start from.
-The pars are too high (I threw an albatross/double eagle on a par 5!!!).

Other Thoughts:

Have you ever been walking in the woods and thought, "Hey, these trails are (almost) wide enough to be disc golf fairways. If only I had a few baskets..."

Well that's Dufresne Park! Aside from holes 1 and 10, which play on the edge of a field, the rest of the holes play on pre-existing trails in the woods. It looks like no trees were taken down in making this course.

I had fun playing here. I mostly threw my putter, but I got out my drivers sometimes too. The fairways were tight, but not too narrow to turn the game into Plinko. The design is impressive considering how little land is used and how few trees were taken down. Nevertheless, there was not much space to work with so the course isn't a place to go out of your way to play. It's a nice, small local option. There are a bunch of par 4s and 5s (and even a 6!) but these are played down narrow wooded trails. There are some fun gaps to hit (thanks again to the excellent design).

I've played 50+ courses all over the country, but I've never played a course like this. It's worse than all the "real" disc golf courses out there, but the design is good enough to make it better than those lame wooded courses with trees everywhere. Go check it out, keep your expectations down, and have fun!
