Par 66 on Route 66

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 8, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great pads, signage, fair par 4's and 5's. Great course worth true separator holes.

Cons:

Hard to find any. I enjoyed the elevation, dam hole is epic.

Other Thoughts:

Beautiful views, great location between OKC and Tulsa.

One of Oklahoma's best 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 31, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

Tee boxes on every hole
Decent tee signs
"Next tee" signs on most of the holes
Decent use of natural fairways throughout the course.

Cons:

LONG course
Lots of long walks between some of the holes.

Other Thoughts:

This course is a gem when you get down to it. What a course.

Elevation, par 4's and 5's, shaped fairways. Even risk/reward shots.

Without getting into a hole by hole description, this course will take every disc in your bag. Several holes where your first shot landing areas are SO important to getting the 2nd upshot in. Both shorter and longer holes too.

I must mention hole 17, this is either the worst hole or best hole depending on how you look at it. 1260ft par 5 hole teeing off from one end of the dam with the lake on your right and the slope down to the bottom of the dam on your left. You basically have a 20ft area to land on or your not having fun. I can only imagine what this hole would be like on a windy day. I got lucky and it was only raining, no wind. Still lost a disc and took a 7 on this hole.

Worst hole on the course is hole 18. After playing hole 17, you walk a long ways, a really long ways, to play 18 that is just throwing a wide open shot across the spillway to the basket that sits below the parking area at the bottom of the hill. This hole would have been better if the basket was on top or on the side of that hill.

Thats it, my 2 biggest gripes about this course is the long walks between some of the holes and hole 18 that is just a boring hole and the worst on this course.

This is pretty close to being a destination course, well worth a stop if your driving down I-44 between Tulsa and OKC.

Would I play here again? Yep, this course would be worth playing again. I left a lot out there and while I am scared to throw hole 17 again, I want to redeem myself on that hole.

Long course that rewards accurate distance 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 31, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course has a good mix of open and wooded holes as well as a variety of shots that will test your accuracy.

Course opens with a downhill bomber that resolves into an incredibly steep, uphill putt and approach.

Hole 2 provides a chance at birdie for those who missed hole 1, but every birdie on this course is earned.

Fairways are more than fair (hole 17 is debatable) and the rough is rough.

Course was well maintained with solid tee pads and most holes had accurate tee signs with the hole layout.

Great use of elevation and green placement.

Cons:

Course layout has some issues with a couple holes requiring you to backtrack the fairway to access the path to the next hole.

Wind is a common battle in Oklahoma and this course is no exception, leaving you well exposed on many holes, albeit no fault of the design.

Hole 17 will be the crux of many rounds on this course: 1200ft par 5 along the damn of Lake Stroud that more often than not will be the windiest part of the course. 3 well placed drives for a chance at birdie are made difficult by water on your right and a steep right to left slope on your left which you are throwing along the entire way to the basket. This hole's length will seem redundant to most players.

Hole 18 provides the possibility of a birdie finish for big arms but is an underwhelming finish to a long course.

Other Thoughts:

This is a fun course for intermediate players and above but will likely be frustrating for novice players.

What a day 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 1, 2020 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Lots of good elevation change and a variety of difficulty in the layout. Some easier holes at/under 300ft as well as some of the most difficult par 5s I've played.

Cons:

Usually preatty windy making the 1260ft 17th very difficult. Brand new course so the rough is a bit rough. Also a few ticks but nothing out of control

Other Thoughts:

Preatty brutal course but ultimately a gem.
