Pros:
This course combines heavily wooded holes with super open ones, playing around a treeline and road near a middle school. It features a variety in distance, two par 4's, bridges to help you cross the creek, and a fun experience overall.
There are several design elements I like here. There are a few low ceiling shots, a mando to keep hole 7 from being boring, and the open shots are longer than the wooded ones. You can even play a skip shot on a few different holes.
Jumping in and out of the woods keeps this course from being bland. Even when the holes aren't too interesting in and of themselves, they don't run together. You never have more than two holes in a row that feel fairly similar.
Hole 2 may cause some controversy, but I like it because it encourages a spicy hyzer shot around some real tall trees. Both the left and right sides are available, and if you get knocked down, your upshot might be difficult.
Cons:
There's next to no elevation change here. Hole 1 is the only exception, but it's one that the elevation doesn't matter a lot on anyway.
The rough can be real bad. The creeks have a lot of mud and water, and they're not always easy to avoid. For a course as easy as this, being a little punishing is a problem. There's also some tall grass in play on 7 and 8 that really looks bad.
There's not much distance overall, and even the par 4's aren't that hard and are a little gimmicky. They need like one more tree in the fairway to really make you think. Even the wooded holes could use one extra tree just off the main treeline to make you think a little more.
You're frequently walking quite a bit between holes, and navigation is a little tricky anyway. For a course as straightforward as this is, having these long walks doesn't make much sense. Just plop the tee near the previous basket; the holes won't get any worse.
Other Thoughts:
This course is fairly confusing, to be honest. There was a lot of real work put in here, but the result isn't great. That said, since the creek runs through most of the treeline and is pretty annoying to play around, a long hole through the woods is pretty much impossible.
This is one of the better school courses out there, and is certainly more than just some baskets in a field. If you're passing by, I recommend stopping here for sure.
