Pros:

Galloway Park is a fun little course that does an excellent job using the available terrain to fit a solid 9 hole course in. The course is permanent and free to play.

The baskets are DGA Mach V's that are all mounted level and catch great. One basket and pin position per hole it seemed. These are some really nice, pretty looking baskets. I'm a fan of these things.

The tees are wood framed gravel pads. These would've been just fine by themselves but they added some tiny little rubber mats towards the front. Not really sure why, but it doesn't seem to help really. Maybe the gravel was getting rutted up towards the front. No idea.

The flow of the course is pretty easy to follow. Starts and ends right near the parking lot. Always a bonus. Next tee signs all over throughout the course. You'd have a hard time getting turned around here.
The tee signs are very well done. There's all the pertinent info on these. Basic hole layout map, with any OB and a next tee arrow. Then you're basics. Hole #, distance and par.

Course was well maintained when I was here. There is a good mix of open and tighter wooded holes. Like I said earlier, good use of the space available.

I like the couple water hazard holes (4 and 9). Not seen too often on 9 holer's. And there's a good variety in distances and shot shapes required to score well.

Cons:

The course seems to be pretty popular. May not be the quickest play.

There's a couple holes where I didn't see much of an actual line off the tee. Holes 7 and 8 come to mind. Both kind of seem like poke and hope holes. Hole 8 wouldn't have been that bad except for the placement of the tee sign and garbage can off the front left side of the pad. It's just hinders the FH line more than it had to be.

I'm not local but it seems like a few of the holes may become flooded or at lkeast pretty swampy after some heavy rains.

Other Thoughts:

Fun course. It was better than I was expecting. I'd play this one again but I wouldn't go too far out of my way to do so. I enjoyed this one more than the Wildwood Springs course just down the road. They pair well together, being so close. But this is the tighter more techie of the two. Which is more my cup of tea.

I'm going to go with a 3 for this one. I was bouncing between a 2.5 or 3, and I still kind of feel that's where it fits. But I'll give it the bump up. Nice course.

Galloway Park 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 7, 2020 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

+ Ample parking
+ Located in a very clean, well maintained park surrounded by certified wildlife habitat.
+ 9 nice new Mach Vs
+ Navigation is very intuitive but there are still next tee signs on most holes. Nice flow. Nice Signage.
+ Nice mix of holes, wooded/open, long/short
+ Some nice Risk/Reward on a few holes
+ A few holes require some good shot-shaping
+ Obstacles include tall wildflowers, brush, trees, and cattails

Cons:

- It feels like a few holes (2, 4, 7) are long just for long's sake. the extra length doesn't really add anything other than extra length
- Holes 6, 7, and 8 are extremely slippery when wet, use caution
- Tees are dirt/gravel with a short rubber mat that collects water. Not ideal.

Other Thoughts:

This is an absolutely beautiful small course but it may be frustrating for beginners.
I enjoy this course very much and it quickly found its way into my rotation.
To get a 4: pour concrete tees

Galloway Park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 9, 2019 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

• Free
• Good mix of open and wooded
• Some true par 4's
• Easy to follow
• Nice big area and park
• Parking right between hole 9 and 1

Cons:

• Some holes are too wooded (3, 4,7) and some are too open (1, 2)
• Woods could be kept better, mowed more often or cleared out more
• Lots of tall weeds that can get your legs eaten up

Other Thoughts:

A decent 9 hole that I think could have been better with the land it was on and with better upkeep and wood clearing. Not a bad course but could be improved. Wildwood springs is another 9 holer about a mile away and is better IMO

Galloway Park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 1, 2019 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Very easy to follow and navigate
-Good mix of open and wooded holes
-Parking and port-a-potty right next to hole #1 and #9
-Nice area and park right next to the river
-A few holes have very nice lines to follow (#8 for example)

Cons:

-The open holes could use some obstacles (#1 and #2)
-Parts of the woods could use some cleaning out
-Some of the wooded holes don't really have a disc path and it's just a "hope you don't hit a tree" hole

Other Thoughts:

-Wear long socks/pants, legs got pretty cut up after one bad throw in the rough
-Woods could be cleaned out a little more/more clear and solid walking paths
-Pretty buggy, may want to use bug spray

Overall, a good local 9-hole course that has room for improvement but is worth a look if you're in the area.

Tough lines 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 27, 2017 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Some variety, park courses are mostly getting better. Thank you, designers!
Not trashed yet.
Easy to navigate. Good signage.
Holes don't cross over each other or other activity areas.
Porta-john on site.

Cons:

Really new: paths not beaten down, lots of tiny stumps to avoid, planting not finished.
#4 has potential, but could use some adjustment.
No trash cans on course.
I going to put the tees under con for MN. They are ok, probably not finished, but will not be great in winter. Dirt, framed, with a half-length rubber mat. Ought to be full-length mat if nothing else. Maybe concrete is coming.

Other Thoughts:

I shot 30 twice today, guess that's about what a tired, experienced amateur should shoot for as par.

Sign shows a practice basket that doesn't exist yet. It really is brand new.

Holes:
1) putting practice
2,3,9) straight shots around 300'
4) no line out of the woods, and the line depicted on the sign will never be played, it would be a 12' wide (for over 250') massive curving dogleg right. A straighter, better shot is possible and far more likely for any experienced player to try, but still basically luck to hit a window out of the trees
5,6,8) great technical holes in the woods, short
7) RHFH, not much else to try. Not long, but par 4 due to difficult line. Good, tough design.

My day at Galloway 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 16, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Course is located in a well maintained park within a nice neighborhood along the Mississippi river. Park features walking paths and soccer fields with most of the course playing along outer wooded edges.

-Parking right off hole 1
-Tee signs and next tee signs nicely done
-Good use of space available
-Course flows well
-Solid mix of lengths and style of holes for a 9er with ace runs, long/open, technical, water, slight elevation etc. Neat features for a shorter course.
-Dog friendly park
-Cart style bags could work here

Cons:

-Long weeds/grass/wildflowers in odd spots which likely will fix itself given more play.
-Rock /dirt timber framed in tees
-Tee signs are on tall posts in front of boxes
-Footing on 8 down hill walk tricky and seems like it will wear down to only get worse. Same with holes 6/7. OK now but time will tell.
-Drainage area "casual water" in possible landing area of hole 4. It was dry today but...?
-Few "lucky" feeling gaps (new course will likely lose a tree limb or two but worth noting for now)

Other Thoughts:

Holes 1 and 2 are open field holes. Meh.
Cool scenic view of river off hole 3 where you can walk down to the water if not too high.

The park is nice and hopefully will see some increased foot traffic to tame down the new-ish feel. This is a good course for any skill level with some tougher lines for a 9er city park but not punishing for any new players. The mix of holes from throwing in and out/around the woods as well as slight elevation and couple ace runs make for solid replay value. Doubt I will go out of my way to play here often but if in the area I'll be making a stop!
