Pros:
This is a temp course on the Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course, used once a year for a PDGA-sanctioned tournament, Spike Hyzer's Stoney Creek Crusher. You only get one chance a year to play this course, so don't miss it! You can either play in the tournament (you will likely play it once on Saturday and once on Sunday) and/or pay to play practice rounds on the Friday afternoon before the event. You can walk or rent a golf cart.
+ Gorgeous course. I have only played a couple of hybrid courses, but this one is really good. My unrealistic dream is to be a member of a disc golf country club, where I can go and play an immaculate course -- a ball golf set-up with long holes, great fairways, and scenic water hazards -- then hang out in the clubhouse and watch golf on TV and drink beer. (I guess there are some private DG courses around that offer a similar atmosphere, but I've never been to one.) Goldsboro Muni is as close to this fantasy as any course I've played, if only for a couple days a year. I don't play much ball golf (like once a decade or so), but even by ball golf standards, this seems like a really nice muni course. It's well maintained and has good clubhouse amenities (TV rooms, a pro shop, and restrooms).
+ I love water hazards. There's just something about watching your disc fly over water. As you can imagine, the water hazards on this ball golf course are nicer than the average muddy pond or creek you might find on an average disc golf course. I wish Goldsboro Muni had some more water carries (only #18 is a legit water carry). The water hazards here are near the baskets or landing area -- enough to make you think, risk/reward. Even though the water carries are lacking, the ponds add to the challenge and aesthetics of the course.
+ Speaking of risk/reward, there are lots of fast greens that will force you to decide: play it safe, or go for it? The bunkers and greens, as well as the water, are OB. Many baskets are positioned on hills or ridges near OB hazards. It's challenging, fun golf.
+ Nice portable baskets.
+ Arrows spray-painted on the ground at each basket point you to the next tee area. (You're also given a map print out at the start.) Tee areas are marked with little yellow flags with the hole numbers on them. The baskets also have hole numbers. Navigation is intuitive.
+ This course is long and open, so you can really air it out: only 7 par 3's, TEN par 4's, and a par 5. This is the future of disc golf: par 66 courses on immaculate property.
+ The course is only a few miles from Seymore Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro. Every so often, F-16's roar overhead at low altitude. There's nothing like the sound of freedom.

Cons:
Not much to say here, but a few nit-picks:
- Only open one weekend a year!
- Some of the tee areas weren't great. Tee #1, for example, is on uneven ground. Many tees are on cart paths, which is nice, but the grass and natural tee pads were so-so.
- Missed opportunity for more water carries.
- Not much elevation.

Other Thoughts:
Make plans to play this tournament, or, at the very least, play Friday practice rounds. I'd play this course all the time, if I could!
