Pros:
Kudos to the folks at Harvest Church for installing a pop-up 3-basket, 9-hole layout around the small church property. Unfortunately, the parking lot -- and even the church building and a busy road -- come in to play, so it's rather dangerous, and only playable when there are literally zero cars in the parking lot.
+ Great to intro folks to disc golf who've never played before. Simple layout that is easy to follow (despite no signage or directional arrows) if you follow the map on DGCR. Tee areas are marked with construction flags.
+ Despite the very small property, there are some good design elements to the holes and interesting lines to hit through, over, or around scattered trees. The OB parking lot is a find obstacle, assuming no cars and you actually being able to play those holes.
+ It's only a pop-up, so I get it that these safety issues aren't a permanent problem. Hopefully this will get people interested in the sport and they'll begin playing on established courses.
Cons:
I hate to be harsh, but there are dangers to people and property here, which gets a big mark-down from me.
- One of the three baskets (accounting for three of the holes) is placed in the middle of the playground area. It's only playable when no one is using it. On the plus side, I had a fun obstructed putt through the swing set.
- There's a tee in my he median in the parking lot. That hole is unplayable when cars are there.
- A couple other holes play over the over the parking lot. Likewise, they are not playable when cars are there.
- Another couple holes play back and forth across an open field in front of the church, next to the road. Be very careful not to early-release or you're sending a projectile into a busy two-lane road.
- Another of the three baskets (used for three holes) is close to two buildings. If you go 15-20 feet long, you could hit a window or go over a privacy fence.
Other Thoughts:
Nice job of making do with what's available. I hope this grows the sport at Harvest Church.
