The Harwood Union Disc Golf Course was designed by students of the high school. It was originally designed as a 9 hole course that followed the cross country trails through the woods. I understand this high school has a very long and proud tradition for cross country excellence. While these narrow wooded trails might make for excellent running trails, they make for a horrible disc golf course. When the course was expanded to 18 holes, the concept of throwing down narrow running trails with brush, trees and danger on both sides was continued.

The course features Discatchers with the yellow bands. They're fairly easy to spot in the dense forest here. There are no tee pads, just signs that say next tee or this way to next hole. That means you tee off from this sign location. You just kind of pick where you want to tee off from. Doesn't much matter, you're going to end up in the rough anyway.

The holes are long and too difficult for a course made for high school students.

Navigation would be impossible with some local help. Some signs were missing.

Throwing down running path time and time again quickly became tedious.

This course could use a major makeover. Shorten it considerably. Eliminate many of the holes using the paths. Carve a few true wooded technical holes out of wilderness. Make it more user friendly by adding some helpful signs and some next tee arrows. Build some actual tee pads.

I was only able to play by hooking up with a couple of helpful locals. They were quite content to play their way up the fairways, 100 feet at a time, usually hunting off the fairways for their discs. Actually, they were more interested in searching for mushrooms to add to their steak dinner tonight. Nice guys! Knowledgeable about their mushrooms, too.

Challenging. Mostly wooded. Some very long holes. The course is under construction right now and the first nine are being redone. Nicely tucked away, a great place to play a peaceful round. Hole 7 and 8 have a steep ob cliff to the right. good signage.

Under construction. While the course has some potential, I do not get the impression it gets many players, therefore it is overgrown on back 9 and feel abandoned.The par count on the signs is set up for kids. There are several par 6 and par 5 holes according to the sign. I made all par 6 par 4 and all par 5 into par 4 to keep it real.

This time next year, or early spring next year I will go back and see what all has gotten done. Until then I'd rather wait until it gets finished.

It's a place to play disc golf.

-There are no tee mats or anything to specify where to tee off from.

-No direction on where holes are, hard to follow.

-No real maintenance (It is on school grounds so the fields are mowed.)

-The 9th hole has been removed, back 9 are impossible to find/follow.

-Back 9 aren't permanent holes.

If you are needing to fill your urge to play frolf and driving by, you mind as well stop and play. If you and in there area and looking to play, I would recommend Center Chains in Watebury Center or Sugarbush in Warren.
