Priceless like a mother's love, or the good kind of priceless?

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 18, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

If you're creative, you can make a passable safari layout. If you follow the flow of the baskets in a circle, well....
- There are six baskets. Being very generous, they are in a small field measuring an acre and a half.
- You can play this as the designated criss-crossing layout, play it as a short layout from one basket to the next, or just for practice. None is ideal.
- Baskets are adequate. No tee areas, which is further reason to create your own.
- Good layout to introduce new players to the game.
- Can be played quickly. I was out of here in 10 minutes.
- I guess if you live within walking distance you can use the baskets for putting or approach practice.

Cons:

This isn't a true course. That plus the compacted layout makes you wonder how much usage the baskets actually get.
- No indication of signage or tee signs. That's a good thing or a bad thing. YMMV
- Lack of challenge. The minimal trees have to be throw around or under branches. Not too difficult.
- If you try to use the UDisc app, you'll look like a fool trying to determine the random patch of grass that is meant to be a tee.
- Boring.
- Not a single memorable aspect to it. Even the Google Street view of the school is more than 10 years old.

Other Thoughts:

Hawley is good for bagging purposes. That's obvious by seeing the people on this site who have played here.
- Nine people have marked this 'course' as played. Only one person who's played here has played less than 150 courses. Five of the nine have played more than 750 courses. Is the course doing something right that it only attracts the elites?
- Unless the baskets get spaced out, this will be a bad layout. It's not worth time to make excess walking to simply create different 'holes.'
- Glad this was a quick play. There wasn't a single memorable basket location here.
- Writing this review, I didn't know what town this was in. Had to look it up. I've already forgotten. Seems fitting. This layout will soon be forgotten too.

Good for practice 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 3, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

I don't want to give the wrong impression with my rating. It's unfair to compare a practice area like this to a 4-star, 18-hole course. And yet, there's only one rating scale and there's really no other way to do it. (You can read how I approach ratings and reviews in my profile.) Hawley Middle isn't designed to be a full-fledged course. It's a practice area with 6 decent baskets in a field on the property of the school. There's no set layout. You can play it as a safari course (and actually there's enough room for decent distance) OR just use the area for putting and upshot practice. This is great space to introduce middle schoolers to the game. The downside is, currently there isn't a public course in Granville County. (There are plans for one though!)

Cons:

As mentioned, it's not designed to be a course. It's just 6 baskets spread across a field with a few guardian trees here and there. Nothing fancy. But it serves its purpose.

Granville County's only Public Baskets 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 7, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Possibly the only public baskets in Granville County, NC.
The Lightning DB-5s are all in good shape, no rust at all. Only one ring of chains, but they catch pretty darn well.
Good grass, several trees, a good practice area.

Cons:

No tees or any sign of a designed course.

Other Thoughts:

This is a good practice area. The baskets are in great shape and arranged in basically two triangles.
You can make just about any shape hole you want, one large bushy tree in the middle and several on the perimeter.
I've been trying to think if a course could be laid out with the baskets in this shape, they were probably set up this way for a short, middle-school aged gym class course. You really couldn't have holes of any length unless you criss-crossed a few times or took long walks away from the baskets.
I noticed this one on one of my alternate routes home from work and have stopped several times, once to play to all the baskets, but normally for putting and upshot practice.
Not sure if it is used for gym classes or not. Best to wait until after school hours to get your practice in.
