Pros:

Hay Creek DGC is a 9 hole course that seems to be intended for guests of Hay Creek Cabins. It is, however, available to anybody who wants to play it. You need to contact Josh before showing up and he can get you set up to play here.

The flow of the course is pretty straightforward. It plays basically counterclockwise if you're starting by the cabins. We weren't staying at the cabins since it was February. He instead had us park on the subdivision road just north of the course. If you're doing this it's just as easily played but you'd start on hole 6 and play the nine holes that way. Regardless, the flow was extremely easy to follow.

The baskets are a mix of Axiom and MVP temp baskets on each hole. The Axioms are orange and the MVPs are black. Needless to say the Axioms were much easier to spot. Both were decent as far as catching was concerned. Not great but plenty good enough for a private course such as this. One basket and placement per hole.

There's tee signs at every hole too. Very basic but make locating the tee much easier. They have the hole #, par and distance. All the info you really need to be honest. The quality of the signs was well done too. These are built to last and should stand up to the elements quite well. Pretty impressive.

The course consists of 8 par 3's and a lone par 4. Hole 5 is the lone par 4 and warrants that par for the vast majority of players. It's also the best hole out of the first seven in my opinion. It's mostly open but has a few trees spread out towards the end of the hole which makes the approach a bit trickier. Hole 8 and to a lesser extent 9 delve into the woods and make for a nice ending to the round, especially after the wide openness of the first seven.

The tee pads appear to by wood chips. The ones that weren't under snow were for certain. I'd assume that that's the case throughout though. All tees had a yellow brick denoting each of the front corners of the intended teeing area. No issues with these.

Cons:

The baskets are temp/practice baskets. The good thing is that they're MVP branded ones. These are the best option that I've seen for this type of basket. That said, they're still temp/practice baskets. Thin chains, not mounted in the ground, etc. The black MVP ones are hard to spot. That's kind of of them as a company more than anything. At least they're not brown I guess lol.

The first 7 holes are mostly wide open. I played here in February so there was snow on the ground. It's been the mildest winter I can recall though. Looking at the area these first hole play on I'd guess that this is going to be Prairie style stuff in the warmer months. Generally that means lots of searching for discs just off the "fairway".
Let's just say that I'm glad I played this one in the winter.

It'll be a little tough to navigate the course without a map. There's a couple odd transitions in spots. Nothing crazy really, the solar panels will screw you up potentially. I'd recommend using a map though. It'll just streamline things.

Other Thoughts:

This was a decent course. I was surprised with the bells and whistles as far as tee signs and wood chipped tees. Even the baskets, although temp, at least were MVP branded.

The terrain is what it is though. Lots of wide open holes. It was a relief to get back into the woods for the last 2 holes. That said it's well worth a visit at least once. I'd play it again if it was easier to get ahold of someone. Decent course.
