Great fun in Vietnam! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 25, 2018 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

A challenging variety of holes that will require you to use a lot of different shots: rollers, thumbers, hyzers, anyhzers, backhand, and forehand.

Nice amount of open field shots and wooded technical holes, with 2 of the holes being Par 4's. Lots of OB, so can be fairly unforgiving if you get off your line.

Decent tonals used as targets for most of the holes.

Great cafe at hole 1&18 where you can get a cafe sua da or a beer to start/finish the round.

Saigon Disc Golf club has a small, but solid, group of players with a variety of skill. They're very welcoming of visiting players and willing to share plastic if needed as long as you contact them ahead of the round. They almost always invite people out for drinks or food after the round for some socializing.

Cons:

The course gets pretty flooded during the rainy season (May-September) and the fields stay that way for quite a while. Playing during those conditions is not for the fainthearted.

Not a permanent course, so no markings for teepads or the holes. Definitely have to play with someone from the club 1 or 2 times before you can try to run it yourself.

Other Thoughts:

It's the only course in Vietnam, so if you're passing through, you've got to give it a try! Fun, Intermediate level course. Advanced players will probably play around -3 or -4.

It can be difficult to find, so be sure to reach out to the Facebook group (Saigon Disc Golf) a week or so before you want to play. The club plays regularly at 9am on Saturdays and 2pm on Sundays, but some of the players are available for pick up games during the week. They sometimes have shirts and minis available for sale as well.

This was my home course for about 3 years, and where I first learned to play the game (definitely still learning!), so I might be partial, but it's a good time, with some great people.

HCMC's only disc golf course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 16, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Only place to play 18 holes in Ho Chi Minh City.

-Good variety of drive lengths, obstacles, hazards, and approach shots.

-Great group of regular players, very supportive of newbies, and with plenty of plastic to spare.

Cons:

-No permanent baskets. Sometimes able to get a collapsible basket, but having to move it hole to hole slows down game play. Usually using trees or light poles as targets, which are marked with yellow tags.

-high grass/brush and marshy areas at times.

-People occasionally use this side of the park for photo opps

Other Thoughts:

-Major hazard (lost discs) on left hand side of hole 3.

-Wear sun protection, long pants, and enclosed shoes. Always bring a disc rag to dry off your discs, and always bring water!

-land might get developed for future apartment buildings, so no long term security for the course. Park security guards are used to seeing players, and have no problem with us playing. They even want to join in for a few throws occasionally.
