Epic location for a future course.

There's no course here... yet. Hole layout isn't obvious unless you're one of the course refiners or have been to a recent work party.

One day, this is going to be an incredible destination course to compliment the Cushman Cruise 9-hole across the street. For now, it lives in the mind's eye of the ambitious and talented folks of the Mason County Disc Golf Club. My suggestion would be to remove it from dgcoursereview until it's further along.

Yes the same club that brought us Shelton Springs (and a few others) have been working hard on another great piece of property and though thus far only nine holes are completed, you can see that this will be in the discussion for best course in the state. Just remember that there are nine holes out here currently of the eighteen they are building; current holes are: 1,2,3,4,5,15,16,17, and 18. After five you'll see signs for 15, follow them you aren't missing any they are unfinished.

Finding the course is fairly easy, look for the giant disc golf sign pointing you in, take a right and find a gravel parking lot large enough to accommodate tournaments (probably) and if not there is another parking lot for the nearby hiking trail that is right next to the basket for eighteen, and only a short walk from the disc golf parking lot. Walk down the dirt path and find hole one.

Hole one: You are throwing down and over dense bushes and a small creek. The basket is not in view from the tee box which is the norm for this course so far. If you don't want to walk all the way down and around (it's a bit of a walk from tee pad to basket area) everything to see the basket and back just know that the basket is slightly to the right of the opening across the creek directly in front of the tee pad. This is a short hole, though not easy; don't get used to short or easy the rest of the way.

Hole two has you throwing up a hill to a blind basket built into a tree stump. Slightly low ceiling this is another shorter hole though not easy due to elevation change. The left side of the landing area (especially short of the basket) is fairly open to RHBH players wanting to hyzer shouldn't have to worry about much here.

Hole three: An epic long double dogleg par four hole. The first drive is a slight left to right to the landing zone and then a long straight/hyzer upshot depending on where you landed to the basket up a small hill. A drive going too far right will leave you in the jungle; too far left and you are up the ridge and throwing a much harder upshot to the basket. This is an amazing hole.

Hole four: Downhill straight shot with lots of trouble long which is easy to do. Putters that glide too much are punished severely as your next shot (if you can find it) will be back up the hill.

Hole five: Another epic double dogleg par four. Don't worry about the basket for now as you won't be able to see for about five hundred feet or so anyway. This is a tricky semi RHBH hyzer off the tee. Then an uphill and low ceiling left to right (RHBH anhyzer) upshot that is one of the trickiest upshots/second drives I have ever seen. A true par four for open players.

Hole fifteen: A shorter (reachable for most players) downhill throw with a decent RHBH hyzer line at the beginning but a sand trap like group of bushes protects an assault of the basket from this angle; to achieve a two you must throw the left to right route. An interesting par three hole unlike the others so far on the course.

Hole sixteen: This is another epic par four hole that is not intended for beginners; the group in front of us (two players) each lost a disc a piece in the brush off to the left.. yeah don't throw there. The first drive is a narrow but open fairway to a small landing area after a large throw. Then you have to circumnavigate the trees on your right by going around and to the left with another tight drive that finishes to the right. This is a very difficult par four hole.

Hole seventeen: An uphill and across the creek throw to a semi protected basket; best way is just a RHBH hyzer with something fast but not too fast as the uphill is also low ceiling again like the other areas on this course when going uphill.

Hole eighteen: A very interesting, long par three/short par four hole that has a very sharp left to right turn right at the tee pad that is lined with trees and bushes on all sides. This little turn makes throwing a long drive very difficult. Once you get past this point the basket is straight ahead, and see able but still a long way out and harder than it looks; don't miss to the right.

They are still in the developing stage and it was slightly confusing to us not knowing that (A) there are only nine holes here so far, (B) they aren't congruent with each other, and (C) the red pads or "upper" pads have signs but aren't installed yet. So yeah just don't follow those signs and you're good but remember that after hole five you are now on fifteen.

Although not a con to me I mention the brush because some of you find it a con. Honestly though it really was only the rough that was .. well rough. You throw it offline and you deserve to be punished in my opinion. Anyhow there is some brush here even a little off the fairway to make sure you pay attention and watch your disc till it hits the ground and remember a landmark for finding it and you should be good or use spotters if you really are that terrible. The two n00bs in front of us lost a disc a piece.

This is another amazing piece of land and even more amazing course design from the Mason County guys. I will go out on a limb and say right now that this is the best nine hole course I have ever played and may be the best nine hole course in the country at this exact moment with nine more holes to go. Not sure what they put in the water in Mason County but I wish we had a tenth of it in King and Snohomish Counties. Congrats on another course that will top the list of best courses in the state. When they add nine more and they are all like this one I can see my rating going up further.
