Pros:
Nice intermediate level links style course set on a suburban church campus. Holes are at a challenging length for a church course. Navigation is pretty easy once you find the tee box to Hole 1. Big, BIG spacious tee boxes allow for long run ups if you use one. Innova Discatcher Pro baskets. Some holes have some nice rolling elevation with blind pins. Fairways were well mowed (actually hayed might be a more appropriate term as there was a big bale of it of what I assume used to cover Hole 1's fairway). If your're an accuracy freak, the tall grass rough will provide extra challenge.
Cons:
If you're the type of person who hates looking for errant throws in tall grass (and it doesn't take much here to be "errant"), you're going to hate this course unless you're a sharpshooter. I probably spent twenty minutes on the first two holes looking in the rough for discs. The flat, lightly wooded terrain doesn't offer much in the way of variety. New players and people with weak arms (guilty as charged) may find the length combined the narrow fairways frustrating.
Other Thoughts:
The has been the second church in metro ICT to install a course this year. The other is at Eastminster Presbyterian just six miles west of here. I'm kind of glad they went with a little different style here as the land was a little lacking obstacle wise, but in all honesty I don't like spending an inordinate amount of time looking in the grass for discs. I'd advise anyone playing here to bring a buddy so you have an extra set of eyes, and if you have to play alone watch your throws like a hawk.
A few suggestions for improvements:
- Mow the fairways more in the shape of a teardrop than a straight path, wider as you get towards the basket, narrower towards the tee.
- Consider installing short tees.
- Perhaps a dogleg hole to add variety.
- Putting tall markers in the tall grass to aid with locating errant shots.
Not a must hit, but if you're headed southwest towards Wichita on I-35, you can play a course immediately after exiting as this property is right next to the KTA Andover exit. Then onto Eastminister and the inner city courses.
