Course in a busy park 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 6, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Decent Baskets (See Cons)
-Park Upkeep is good

Cons:

-Basket #2 removed for construction, yet to be replaced
-Grass Tees
-Just a blue post with hole # at tee
-Soccer field in play on #5, #6, #7 and #8
-Walking path in play on #5, #6, #8 and #9
-Backyards in play on #4, #5, #6 and #7
-Shelters in play on #2 (when replaced), #8, #9
-Bathroom building in play on #8

Other Thoughts:

Hull DGC is located in Westside City Park in the western part of Hull, IA. This is a busy park with a very large playground, a pool, a few shelters and a soccer field. The first 4 holes play in a quiet part of the park, although #2 (when replaced) shoots toward a couple of the shelters. This area has some trees to give some lines to work around. #5 through #8 each play along a side of the soccer field. These also play close to backyards (with the exception of #8). Other than the backyards, this is wide open. #9 finishes between the parking area and shelters with a couple of trees. My main concern here is the potential hazards with other activities. The evening we played had a few kids at the playground, but this is, amazingly, not in play. A soccer game would kill half the course. Found the #2 basket as we were finishing up....in a heap up against the wall of one of the shelters. Hopefully they re-install it. Add some concrete tees, decent signage and I could see a full disc higher. The hazards keep it down, but this is meant to get disc golf in the community, which I can appreciate. All holes are less than 300' and that works for the novice. OK for a bagger, but I probably won't play again.

Better than nothing in Hull 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 18, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

+Nice baskets
+Tees are marked by square wooden poles painted blue. Easy to follow.
+Won't lose a disc here.
+This is a nice park with a giant wooden playground but for the most part, the disc golf course stays away from other park activities enough.
+Nice mature trees on the front half of the course. The holes aren't too short or too long and the trees do make you shape your shots a little bit on the first half. Hole 4 was fun with a non traditional line. Probably the best hole on the course.
+Practice basket near 1s tee. I thought it was 2s basket at first. 2s basket is to the left of that one.

Cons:

-Pretty flat, a little elevation on the back half. Could have utilized some hillsides a little better to create more challenging greens.
-Back 5 holes are very open and present little challenge.
-Park has a nice playground and shelters. You shouldn't hit it but keep your drive in check on 4 and 9 especially.
-Not a lot of distance. I'm an average chucker and can reach them all.
-Tees are very natural and kind of rutted. Not terrible but this will happen when you don't provide a tee surface.

Other Thoughts:

+A good place for the whole family to come. There is also a nice pool to go with the aforementioned park.
+Bathrooms also available on site.
+If the whole course was like the first 4, it could be a 2.5 instead. The last 5 were not very inspiring.
+Not a bad place to come and practice if you are a local. I would toss here if I lived in Hull.
+Worth stopping if you're course bagger but not any other reason.
