Some distance with... not much else?

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 4, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

Indian Woods is your typical example of baskets in a field, but it doesn't play around in a circle like some other school courses; there's actually a route to follow. Baskets are numbered, so you'll have a pretty good idea of where you'll be throwing.

Most holes are over 300 feet, which is pretty nice. Three holes play alongside a football field, so you can somewhat tell how far you are throwing.

Roads and fences create a little spicy challenge on the later holes, though they're pretty easy to avoid.

Cons:

While I like the distance, there's not much to go along with it. There are about two trees on the entire course, and the only way to get more in play would also bring people's cars in danger.

Holes 3 and 4, playing back and forth between the football field and a road, are a bit odd. At least there's a tree over there that will probably fail to block any discs.

The distance is also a con. Who is this course designed for? If you can throw 330 feet, you probably want some obstacles in the way to keep the round interesting, but this course has none of that. It's just long and open hole after long and open hole, and that's it. Now, if you have that distance and are working on accuracy, then by all means, this may be a good place to practice. But I think that's the minority of players.

Other Thoughts:

I'll never complain when nine decent baskets are put in a place that doesn't create safety concerns, but this course leaves a lot to be desired. Not a bad place for students who just want to mess around, or for baggers as well, but that's about it.

There's room to plant a few trees, on the holes that are far enough away from other ball fields, though that would push drives farther out on 2 and 5. 8 and 9 are the main holes to be improved, I think.

Typical Schoolyard 9

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 16, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nine brand new Veteran baskets spread around the school's sports fields. (Although, they're Veterans, so maybe it should be a con?)

Navigation is easy, just throw from basket to basket once you find the first tee

For a schoolyard 9'er, the distances are actually difficult! Hole 4 is over 425 and Hole 8 is right around 400. Not just a school putter course.

For playing around the edges of the grounds, Hole 3 was the only time I felt in danger of going in the road. It might come into play on 7 and 8, but not easily.

Cons:

Nothing much in the way at all. Hole 1 has a low branch off the tee, and Hole 7 you'll have to stay left of the baseball backstop, and you'll probably want to treat the football/soccer pitch as OB on 1-3, but the rest are open lines to the pin.

No tees/markers or signage except some paint on the sidewalk for hole 1.

If your disc goes over (or under) the chain link fence on 6 it's a long walk around if you don't want to hop it.

Other Thoughts:

This is my new standard for a "typical schoolyard 9." It doesn't really do anything wrong, but it doesn't do much at all, and didn't have much effort put in besides planting the baskets. It's a great spot for fieldwork or accuracy practice to an actual basket if you live close. But as a course? Not much more than one to add to the total (number 139 for me!).
