Very fun course for beginners and seasoned players as well. Good friendly crowd ( Locals ) . Monday doubles are great. A extra hole known as 5.5 , so 10 total holes.....

Not to many. At this point the grass is tall in area's and you could find yoursef looking for a minute if you dont watch where it comes down. Stickers Galore in your sox but i can deal with that. Can be windy at time, but like the wind out there

For those who may not have played Mackey ( aka: Marconi ) its a great course with good pace of play. Come out monday's @ 6pm and play random doubles, cards are drawn to match up pairs. oddman if numbes dont jive

We now have 20 pin positions on this 9 hole course, hole 5 1/2 was removed, and a basket for hole 3 was put in in the teepads place. Local club does most the mowing, as the park district only mows once a year. Playground on site, and very frequently see horse riders in the park, they have learned to stay away from the baskets, mostly. Dirt and weeds in the summer, green the rest of the year. Monday random doubles at 6pm, april -september. Local club Mackey Chainwreckers, do an awesome job of running this course. The new short position on hole 2, up the hill at the top of the stairs, might be the toughst hole in the area

now that we have all the t-signs up, not to many cons. grass will get tall n certain areas, and during heavy rains, 2 holes will get surrounded by water. we golfers do most of our own mowing out here, so the tall grass is an inconvienence more than a hinderance. no public bathrooms,

- Wet and muddy in winter. I'm sure this isn't a problem in the summer, but in the winter there are many swampy areas on the course, and one basket that was surrounded enough that I didn't even bother to put out on it even with my birdie look.
- Not enough trees on the course for my taste (this could be a pro in some peoples eyes)

For a park in the middle of Sac there was actualy some good distance on most of the holes. Speed of play was fast with groups letting me play through where in other areas around Sac (Orangevalle, Rocklin), I've been stuck behind groups that would refuse to let you pass. The locals here seemed more friendly than I've found elsewhere which gives me hope for Sacramento area golfers yet. The park was prety wet and muddy when I played it, but we had just finished with a week of storms so it could be expected for the course to be a little wet, but it seemed to hold alot of water making for a few areas to become swampy, one basket was even surrounded by a puddle. There was a little bit of elevation change around the course, and it was used well.

Another one and done in the Sacramento area, i am starting to see why shady oaks is so crowded its the only true course in Sacramento. They should really put baskets in at Schwitzer instead of tone poles..

9 holes, pretty wide open with concrete pads. Not much traffic in this park.

signage lacking, most likley stolen and recycled. One hole plays right along a fence next to the railroad tracks, kinda sucks. I dont know if a basket was stolen but it appears holes 6 and 8 share a basket, kind of confusing.

Doesn't look like a good area, however you can pretty much see your car from everywhere on the course.

-Has a few trees that come into play
-Has a little bit of elevation change

-Couse design is lacking a little bit. Thought designers could have made better use of the little bit of elevation change and vegetation that is there.
-Mainly long straight holes
-One of the holes has a rather large fence that rungs along the side of it
-fairly boring

-This is really the only decent course in Sac proper. Sacramento really needs an upgrade. I think a great place for a course would be somewhere along the American River Parkway around Discovery Park area.

Course has wide open space and a good place to learn how wind affects plastic

very repetive with 8 of the 9 holes all being accessable with any type of line no true golf challenging shots unless you have over 400 ft power to reach the 2 long ones.

This course lies in a mostly flat triangular patch of parkland stranded from the larger parks by being cut off by the 80 business freeway and the railroad tracks. Much of the course seems to be leveled out and has drainage structures. The course is hard dirt with the vegetation mostly dominated by grass which the regulars get mowed from time-to-time, and some nicer old craggy oak trees on a higher patch of ground stretching from the 1st tee, though some seem to be dying and falling over.

The mixture of the train tracks nearby and the large concrete sweeping street bridge going over the tracks, along with the horse farm in a working class neighborhood combines to make for an interesting atmosphere. I rather like it, because it is all down to Earth, totally unpretentious, and just is what it is.

This course is rarely as busy as the other courses in the region, which is the most-cited reason why players on the course say they are playing it. Another reason some of the locals enjoy this course is that some of the holes are longer than typically found on other courses in the region, and the open space gives you a chance to air out your longest throws.

There are some very good, and also very friendly players on this course. They have a doubles every week, and are very friendly to visitors and newbies. They also seem to provide mentorship for some very good young players who frequent the course. One of the world's top pro players (Josh Anthon) can also be found practicing his drives out here when he isn't away on tour.

11/2009 UPDATE: Two holes upgraded after fixing some basket thefts, holes 3 and 9 now have multiple basket positions, with both new positions being longer than previous. Long 3 is now the longest hole on the course, at 440 ft. Long 9 is about 400 ft.

The biggest negative is that the holes are mostly open, with few trees or other obstacles. They've done the best they could packing 9 fairly good length holes on this land, and putting the fairways near as many obstacles as they could, but some holes are inevitably wide-open due to the park land itself.

When the course grass is long after the rainy season it can be difficult to find your disc in the longest hairiest patches. In the dry season, when the grass is unmowed, you'll get lots of annoying burrs and stickers in your socks.

There is not a lot of shade on the course, although the tees are mostly located in shady spots. Be sure to bring sunscreen if you're sensitive. This place can get searing hot in the summer.

There aren't many nearby restaurants or liquor stores, but if you take Marconi over the tracks across the business-80 and continue for about 1/2 mile on the left (I think its Howe Ave and Marconi) there is a liquor store and taqueria that are worth stopping at if you're hungry or thirsty. If you want big corporate chain fast food you can go south down the business 80 one exit, and take a right until you get near Del Paso.

A disc throw over the fence toward the tracks can be difficult to retrieve, and you can be arrested for trespassing on railroad property. Play the careful routes to avoid this hazard. If you absolutely must retrieve one, look to be sure there isn't a cop or security patrol watching. Sometimes there are gaps worn in the fence, but other times they are repaired and the fence can be difficult to traverse. But the best policy is this: don't throw over that fence.

Homeless people occasionally sleep in the bushes on the hillside along Marconi as it slopes up to the bridge (the right side of the #2 fairway). They are always friendly and don't mess with anybody else, so leave them (and their belongings) alone...it is difficult for them to find places to sleep in Sacramento.

This is the only dedicated for disc golf course in the city of Sacramento. They tried to install an 18 hole not too far from this one, but it was overturned by a powerful lawyer who enjoyed participating in the gay activities at that park. If you play and live in Sacramento, call or write your councilmen and the mayor to push for more courses.

Some love has gone into my home course over the year, a few benches have been placed as well as tee signs for all the holes. Large and friendly home course community. Some of us are taking on the daunting task of mowing out the fairways, so hopefully the burrs and grass will be more manageable. Hole placement and trees challenge and allows for practice of a multitude of shots. Great for all ages and skill levels. + lot's of ace runs.

Long and hot in the summer, DON'T go over the fence, drinking fountain works now but there is only one and it can be quite a trek from holes 6,7,8,9 bring a bottle. Lot's of gopher holes, and next to a horse farm (they like to walk their horseys on the course) so watch your step there are piles, but atomatic ace if you get em', minus an extra stroke if you knock the rider off.

Weekly Doubles start as of Monday March 23,2009 5-530 pm. Draw for partner, 7$(5 pot,1 course fund,1 optional ace pot). It is our haven in the city, for those of us who can't drive to Sacramentos' nicer parks. Great local community, very supportive of beginners and usually there are a few groups out, easy to join up if you're flying solo

Sometimes it can be over crowded.
Obstacles....you may throw onto the train tracks. There's a hole in the fence that you can leap over to get it. Railroad police do drive by so make sure you don't hop it when they're in sight. Usually they'll grab the disc and thank you for not hopping it.
The other obstacle is people crossing the train tacks and using the course as a short cut. Usually what I do is yell "Four!" and throw at their faces
One time I got stuck behind a group of 15 or so "thugs" that stopped at every basket to get high, drink a beer or lay down some freestyles. I was not allowed to play through.

Marconi was my home course for a few months and I loved it because you have kids playing on the playground who wander into your flight path randomly. (some people seem to have no idea that there is a course there, which is odd)
Sometimes people will run across the train tracks jump the fence and bolt through the course while the whole time you hear police sirens.
I'm not being sarcastic that the "ghetto-ness" of this course attracts me to it.
Something always funny happens. So don't go there expecting to play a serious round. That is unless there is no one there. BAM!

Good course for beginners not many obstacles but enough challenges to make it fun. Can be played fairly fast and it's open enough to play at night! We played a night game there with battery lanterns to light the pins and our BlackJax lightup disks. What a hoot. Playground for the kids. The water is working now, don't count on it though.

The ground is still a little rough and has ankle eating holes, watch your step. The railroad can be a problem on two holes. Don't get caught crossing the fence to retrieve your disk, you may get a ticket. Early summer you will find not just some stickers but all of them. There are no bathrooms or water. (there is a fountain but it never works.) There is a drainage ditch across the pathway to the first pin.

Nothing special but a nice course. We can easily play three rounds after work and though we end up playing the last two pins in the dark the course is open enough that it's not a problem. Bring water in hot weather.

NIce local small course. Fairly easy to play with hardly any obstacles. Great layout for the amount of land that they had to work with. NIce pads and signs at every hole except #1 was missing and I think one other.Very easy course to find. Nice play ground for the kids to play on while you throw a round, and you can see it from most of the course.

Not the best looking course or the greatest location. I had a little bit of difficulty finding the pad for #6. NO bathrooms.

This is the best course that I have ever seen for a beginner. It would be almost impossable to lose a disc. Hole #1 is the most difficult so don't let it get you down if you are a beginner.(Probably not the best way to design a course) The only real hazard is the train track on hole #7, just make sure that you aim a little right and keep it LOW. You can play the course pretty fast. There were 3 of us and we were able to play 2 rounds in about an hour. I would recomend playing this if you are a local. If you are coming in from out of town, the other local courses are MUCH better. Take the time to find one of them.

An open area with obstacles to improve your skills on. Sheltered by the wind. Right off the freeway. Worth a stop.
