Pros:

--Discatcher Pros are in great shape
--Crowds will not be a problem

Cons:

--Grass tees
--Mostly straight, wide open

Other Thoughts:

Tucked away behind a large RV park, Kamp Dels DGC is basically a hayfield with baskets. Not that this is all bad--a hayfield with baskets is already a vastly improved hayfield. I can scarcely claim that the course I am building in my backyard is much more than a hayfield with baskets at this point, and I am already rather fond of it.

Indeed, were Kamp Dels something other than a hayfield with baskets, I wouldn't have gotten a round in today. A gap opened up in my schedule while I was rather close to two well-reputed courses that I have yet to sample (Maiden Shade and Waseca County Courthouse Park). I always keep my discs in the car (smart), but happened to be wearing sandals (dumb). A grassy course was just what the doctor ordered, and this one was nearby.

This is a nine hole course with permanently mounted, numbered Discatchers, probably keeping the layout mostly static, although it did not perfectly line up with UDisc mapping. The fairways could potentially be mowed somewhat differently, and the tees consist of a pair of yellow cubes painted with the hole number, easily moved out of the way to facilitate mowing, and not necessarily put back in exactly the same location. The rough consists of those areas of the field that are not mowed.

Of the nine holes, only two are anything but a straight unobstructed shot. #1 bends ever so slightly to the right around a rectangular grid of young maples, and #6 is U-shaped, wrapped around a pond. Various trees line the pond, making a direct crossing impossible. The large excavator which I found parked inside circle 1 on #5 was almost certainly a temporary obstacle. Other than this, the course is completely open.

While it can be difficult to find discs in tall grass, the rough consists of grass, alfalfa and dandelions--nothing particularly thorny or noxious. I had little problem in locating my off-target throws during two round trips.

I wouldn't recommend that you go out of your way to play Kamp Dels, but if I seasonally resided in the RV park, I'd be pretty stoked that there was a course on the premises. I'm sure that was the intent here.

Pros:

- Beginner friendly
- Quick rounds with a light bag
- Maintained fairways accentuated by surrounding rough🌾
- Very beautiful when the wildflowers bloom.🌼
- Rows and rows of saplings were planted on the right side of the fairway in 2020.

- Hole 6 is a "Horseshoe Shot" that could be redesigned to make players attempt throwing over the pond or playing safe around the bend and saving par. It's a tough get either way.

Cons:

- Mixed results if this course is open to the public or camp visitors
--^called each time before driving up to the course and got different answers by different staff members. (This was also 3 years ago now, don't know what the policy is now)

- Had to walk from the main parking lot to the course.

- Some of the tees are slanted causing uneven run-ups (thinking Hole 7, specifically)

Other Thoughts:

All in all, this is a nice little disc golf course that adds a nice little adventure to those that stay at the Dels. Typical "prairie disc golf" with lots of gently rolling hills and mowed fairways. Contains rough, that while not long, can cause you to spend considerable amount of time searching for your disc if you land off the fairway. This is especially true on Holes 6-9.

Hole 6 is a "Horseshoe hole" and the most confusing shot on the course.
