Pros:

A lot of fun shots
multiple large tees

Cons:

Well away from the main roads

Other Thoughts:

This course is listed as private, but when I arrived and scanned the welcome board, it certainly seemed like it was open to play at will. I took that as enough permission to give it a go. It definitely seems to be on private land, not public, so make doubly sure to take any trash with you, fix any problems you see, and generally be nice to the owners so that they want to keep the course open to everyone. (Yes, you should be doing this without the reminder. Nonetheless...)

It looks like the course is still under construction. I was able to find holes numbered on the signs 1-13, and since I didn't see any more and #13 ended up being fairly close to the tees for #1, I figured that was all for now. So yes, this is a very early review, and I fully expect some things to change as the course develops more.

This course definitely looks like a labor of love. Fortunately, I mean that in a good way. The holes are on the short side, with most of them going through light-to-moderate trees. A few of them are wider-open, and I didn't see any tunnels-through-trees shots. There are minor elevation changes only--something that surprised me, given the generally hilly nature around Athens--and theoretically there are some water spots, but they appear, at least for now, to be well off the throwing lanes, as I never actually saw any water. There are spots where the tees are close to throwing lanes, but they nicely put in backstops to protect anyone teeing off. The designers did, however, add some "house rules" holes. Several holes have elevated baskets, but more interestingly, a few holes have designated "island" spots (if you don't land inside the marked area, consider your throw to be out of bounds, and drop in the designated drop zone--with, naturally, a penalty throw), and there's one hole with a fairly tight double-mando--again, with rules about where to drop if you miss the mando.

Adding to the labor-of-love feel, there are at least four different basket types and possibly more used--I remember white, green, yellow, and no collared baskets, and won't swear that that was all of them, or that all the baskets of each color were from the same manufacturer. Also, some of the baskets had numbers on them that definitely didn't match the hole number. I found it kind of charming, but I could see it triggering someone else's OCD. And if the designers are reading this, could you please move the green-collared baskets to the straight-ahead, obvious-to-spot holes, and put the white or yellow ones in the tucked-away or longer-distance holes?

All in all, I had a lot of fun. It's the disc golf equivalent of the quirky odd bookstore/restaurant/coffee shop that, while it has mostly the same stuff that the chain stores have (no pun intended), has its own unique feel to it. I don't think it's worth a special trip in for specifically, but is definitely worth hitting at least once if you're passing nearby or spending an extended time in the Hocking area. Though be warned that it's well off the main roads, so it will take time to get to, and if you're using Google Maps to get there and take a wrong turn, it may send you along some you've-got-to-be-kidding-me "roads" to get there. (I'm not sure that the single-lane, gravel, 20° inclined path was officially a road, but Google sure thought that it was.)

Great local course! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 12, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great tees and baskets are installed, including night glow baskets!
The course design is challenging and requires several different shots. The long and short tees basically offer 18 holes.

Cons:

After rain or snow melt, this course gets wet and stays wet for a long while. Prepare for mud!
