Nice Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 24, 2021 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Large course, nice setting.
Scorecards with map.
Nice signage.
Restrooms around beginning and half way point.

Cons:

All hole rated Par 3, some should be Par 4.
Could use some benches.
Poison ivy along some holes and in mowed fairways need to be taked care of.
Fairways need to mowed wider, pretty narrow.
One hole along road is badly placed.
Some branches near tee boxes needs removed.

Other Thoughts:

Considerable elevation change. Some baskets are very close to woods and tall grass.

Nice 18 Holes in a state park 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 21, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Concrete tees
-Very good signage and map
-Decent Baskets
-Decent Layout
-Some very picturesque holes near the lake
-Nice upkeep of area, mostly for disc golf

Cons:

-A little hilly for the novice
-Mainly straight shots, not much interest for more experienced players
-All Par 3s, a little low for some of the longer holes.
-A couple of shelters come into play (Holes #15 and #18)

Other Thoughts:

Lake Icaria State Park DGC is located just north of Corning, IA. While the park is multi-use, the course keeps, mostly, to itself with just a couple of shelters that may come into play. Water really only comes into play on Hole #17 (over a small pond.), but while the map shows play over the hole, there is not a decent shot over the pond, you are better going around. Top notch signage was a nice, but all holes were Par 3, which seemed a bit harsh for a few of the longer holes. Course is just new a couple of years ago. Saw only one trash can and no benches. Addition of both along with some more realistic pars would bump up the rating for me. If you are in the area, I would recommend, maybe add in with a course or two over in Creston for a day of it. A bit of a drive for me, but I would play it again.

Beautiful park with lots of elevation change 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 14, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

+ Beautiful park surrounded by the lake
+ Good use of elevation changes
+ Bright and easy to spot Patriot baskets
+ Signs with a hole map and distance and elevation change
+ Course map at the start
+ Good risk/reward options with catchy pine trees along alot of the holes
+ Concrete teepads with gravel around so there is not a drop off.
+ Hole 4 top of the world drive.

Cons:

- Could use some more technical holes
- A couple of holes play near a road

Other Thoughts:

This is a nicely maintained course. It is easy to navigate and the signage is very helpful. The signs even have the elevation change on them which was nice because there is a lot of elevation change out here. The baskets are brightly painted Patriot baskets which were easy to see and very catchy. The pine trees make for some nice "natural OB" since they are so catchy and tough to get out of. The challenge out here is controlling the angle at which your disc lands since there is alot of slopping holes. Restrooms were available in a couple of spots on the course. The course could use some tighter more technical holes.
