Lakeland adding to their courses

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 15, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

Lakeland has another little gem to add to their course list. Although only nine holes it is right off of Interstate 4 and is worth the stop if you're in the area. There's plenty of old Florida charm with tall pines, live oaks, cabbage palm, cedar, and cypress trees throughout.

Most holes are about 300 feet with two 400 plus feet with all unique and challenging for the intermediate to beginner level. The baskets are new (Innova DISCatcher) and the fairways clean with low grass. Players really don't have to worry about losing discs except if you have a bad throw on hole #1 going to the right into tall grass/reeds or a shank on hole #3 Long going into the canal.

Cons:

The course is in the middle of a large walk path that flows alongside the lake. On hole #3 Long and hole #5 you have to watch your throw because the path crosses through the fairways. On the weekday morning I played the walkers were thinning out by 9:30 AM. I don't think they have seen too many people playing before since they were scratching their heads as I passed by pulling my cart and stopping along the path to tee off.

The tee pads are part of the walk path and designated with a painted diagonal line so not much room for the start of x-step and little sand pot holes have formed in the grass in front as a result. There were no next tee pointers but that is not a big con since the course is easy to navigate after looking at the map. I did have to look a little harder to spot the tee pad for #5 (from hole #4 take a right heading for the walk path and then just past the volley ball net you'll see the tee sign).

Other Thoughts:

There are plenty of garbage cans, so the course is clean, and a restroom by hole #3 Long tee pad on the other side of the canal as well as one where you enter the park. For eye appeal there are lots of little bridges both across the canal and to get over summer rain wet spots back up to the walk path tee pads. There was an interesting warning sign about coyotes at the front of one bridge to inform the walkers to keep your pets near you because the coyotes are fast.
