9 Tonal Ace Runs with Good Signage in a Flat Meadow 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 8, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

- For what it is, it's a solid little handful of tonal ace runs, with I believe 7 of them under 200 feet and a couple around the 250-275 mark somewhere.

- Very good signage, easy to navigate.

- Tones are in good condition and visible from the tee pads.

- While there are a couple of spots you can throw into where there'd be trouble finding discs, because the course is so short losing discs shouldn't be an issue.

- Lots of parking nearby.

Cons:

- Not much variation in hole distances or elevation. There's a couple of courses that use the trees to create some challenge, #4 is a bit of a tunnel shot for example, but otherwise you're kind of just throwing to a tonal in a relatively open field.

- For being a short course, they managed to put walking paths in play more than necessary it feels like. #6 tees off directly across a walking path which seems like an odd place to put the tee. Not a huge deal, we were just kind of wondering why they didn't put the pad 30 feet over on the other side of the path and avoid throwing over the walking path given that all the baskets are super short anyway.

Other Thoughts:

For beginners, a great place to learn to throw discs.

Difficult to review this course alongside other courses in BC because it's not really in the same category. It's like trying to review a mini-golf putting course against a full golf course. For what it is it's a solid little course, but it's not really worth driving out of your way to check out unless you're hitting every course on the island or something. If there were min-disc golf course reviews I'd give this a 2.5 or a 3, but I don't want to give it that rating and have people think this is a course that might be worth driving out of their way for.

Great for kids and beginners. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 2, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Pitch and putt course with mostly wide open holes. Wonderful signs and fun tone poles. Great map on entry to the park. Kids had more fun than on longer courses. 5 minutes from Buchart Gardens so very easy to stop in.

Cons:

Wide open. Short straight shots for the most part.

Other Thoughts:

Navigate to Layritz park and you end up on the east side parking for other facilities. To best access disc golf and to approach from hole 1 you need to park at Vancouver Island Technical Park. Navigate to Layritz Park Disc Golf. Free to park only after 5:30 weekdays and also on weekends.
