Pros:
This 18 hole course at Little Creek Park was my last stop of the day , but also my funnest . If you drive all the way towards the back end of this park you will see a couple of baskets and a local also may be able to help you find the start . You can actually park almost next to the #1 tee if the course isn;t too crowded . Bathroom is near hole 1 . Equipment . The course has yellow banded and numbered Discatcher baskets , adequate signage , and a mulch type tee pad bracketed by wood . Some steps are here to help you , too . Some of the holes have alternate tees for a little more challenge The course is mostly wooded with a couple of the holes in a more park style setting and the grounds are well kept up . There is a good amount of elevation here , as with most of the West Virginia courses . The course plays short and technical , with most of the holes in the 175' to 250' range . This course stays away from the main population of the park . I encountered only disc golfers during my round here , a LOT of disc golfers . I am told by the locals that this is the most popular course in the Charleston area . I believe it . I wasn't too impressed while flying through my round until I was forced to slow down by a couple of groups in front of me . Then I started to realize how much fun I was having . Yes , several of these holes could be considered ace runs or at least birdie holes , but the lines play tight and since you are either playing uphill , downhill or sideways on a hill , you always have that possibility of your disc rolling far away from the basket . There should be little navigational issues for you since the paths run you from basket to tee in most spots . I think I looked at my map once . Just remember to walk behind the #1 basket and a little to the left toward kind of a driveway across the road . That #2 hole will take you from the park style #1 to the woods . Also , after finishing hole 13 , #14's tee sits across the road with a left mando . The fun factor is here and in large quantities . Even the more experience players might want to practice their technical shots here . Disc Risk : Even though there is little rough here and no water , and even though you can see most of the baskets from the tee , there is a chance of a rollaway that can take your drive to the bottom of a ravine . benches and trash cans are missing on this course , but it is such a fast play , I don't think it matters . I was able to get through the 18 holes in under in under an hour . Signature Hole : There really wasn't one , but there were a lot of interesting tunnel shots . Plenty of variety here .
Cons:
#1 Equipment . Better tee boxes ( gravel or cement ) and more informative tee signs with a couple of extra NEXT TEE signs , would help a bunch . #2 Safety . Beaning someone with a disc is a possibility , I guess , since the woods holes are short and there are a lot of casuals/newbies that play here , but mainly players slipping and falling after a good rain . This course is hilly and is mostly dirt , so footing will be bad when the course is wet . Challenge : Some will consider this course too easy , a birdie fest . This course is more intended for casual and laid back play . Better players might consider , St Albans , Redeemer or Wine Cellar . This course really isn't cart friendly .
Other Thoughts:
What a perfect compliment to the harder courses of the St Charleston Area . An easier , fast play , technical woods course that most will enjoy . This multi use park seems safe and full of life . The course forces you to be creative , being that most of the holes only have 1 line to the basket . There is something on the course for most . Leave your Destroyers , or Shrykes at home . All you might need is an approach and putter , Lots of Fun Factor . My Recommendation : While pros and competitive intermediates may want to avoid this place , it is perfect for newbies , families , casuals , baggers , travelers, and any locals looking to pick up a quick round . If around Charleston for the night , or traveling I-64 ( also intersecting I-77 and I-79 ) I would suggest coupling it with Redeemer Park ( 2 miles away ) and PLAY IT !!!
