Small pit stop course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 28, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Nice tee signs, decent baskets, great basket visibility.
-Fairways are nice. Some holes play on the green grass while others play in the brush, either way, the fairways are nicely mowed and defined.
-Rough comes into play on the holes that play in the brush. The plants aren't particularly tall, unless it's a tree, so the big gets challenge is finding your disc, you really want to avoid the rough, which I think is a pro.
-Navigation is really easy, since the brush isn't super tall, the tee signs stand out and the course also has a nice flow to it.
-As much as I want to criticize the course for not playing closer to the water it is right next to, I cannot, because it is really inaccessible. There's tons of weeds and water plants etc that make the water hard to get to any other way, other than using the boat launch (which isn't an option)
-This is a clean course, no garbage at all, which was very nice.

Cons:

-Tee lads are grass, they can get slick in wet conditions.
-There are some trees here, and they get used, but not very well in my opinion. The trees in the nice maintained green grass disappointed me a bit. You walk up to the hole and see a weird, impossibly tight line, line it up, then switch discs and throw over the top because the hole is short and so are the trees. With this size of trees I think a little more shenanigans need to happen to make things great.
-Not a whole lot of variety here, just some variable distances but otherwise take your pick of hyzer, straight shot, forehand, or anything else and you can stick with it.

Other Thoughts:

This course is on basically a cooler version of a boat launch. It's a super quick play, only took me 20 minutes. And from my experience it seems like not a whole lot of people are out here at this place. It's definitely not as good as the other Moses Lake course, but since that park is pretty crowded, I'd come here more often to practice some shots.

Cheat Grass!!! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 6, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a decent park course not too far from I-90 in Moses Lake. The park is a fairly flat area by the lake with plenty of parking and bathrooms. There is a course map on the main kiosk and hole signs on each tee.
This is a newer park so the only trees are Russian Olives but there is plenty of newer planting.
They try to make it challenging, 2 is fairly long for a park course and 8 is a 180' par 2 with a fairly tight tree shot.
Since this park isn't as well appointed as the other one in town with a course it shouldn't be as crowded, easier to play in the summer.

Cons:

While a good start, there are some large drawbacks. They haven't put in tee pads of any sort and you can see some wear already. The baskets are a fairly well done copy but only 2 chain style so don't catch as well and catch basket is deeper than usual.
This park is flat with few trees so there isn't much to shape shots. 1 and 9 use what is there well but they missed some opportunities out in the wilder parts of the course.
The biggest drawback is that holes 4-7 go out of the lawn area and into the undeveloped sage brush. They have mowed 10' wide paths to the pins with bark down but as soon as you are off them there is alot of cheat grass. even tho it is sparse, it is tall enough I had to search for a disc for a bit. By the time I was back on the grass part there was so much cheat grass in my shoes it was painful to walk.

Other Thoughts:

I like that there is a course in Moses Lake that is less likely to be crowded in the summer. That is a good stopping spot between Seattle and Spokane, but with the abundance of cheat grass I'm not sure I will be playing here very often.

Course By The Lake Is OK But Lacks Creatitivity! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 7, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Lower Peninsula Park is a fairly good sized park which is about half green grass and half desert scrub. The park sits on a piece of ground with a very gentle slope down to the lake. There are just a few scattered trees which come into play. There is a restroom facility and also a kiosk with maps for both this course and the other Moses Lake course, Blue Heron DGC. The first tee is right next to the parking lot down near the boat launch.
The baskets are (I think) well made copies of regular baskets. They so closely resemble a normal manufactured basket that I wasn't quite sure if they were purchased or forgeries. The top band is painted green while the catching basket is painted blue. There are no tee pads. Paint is chipping off the tee signs leaving a few of the them pretty difficult to make out.
The nine holes range in distance from # 9's 180 foot to the 450 foot distance of # 2. On holes that play out into the rougher areas, there are some bark paths or fairways for you.

Cons:

I think the layout is a little lacking on the creative side. On # 7, for example, it's fairway plays alongside this interesting, slightly elevated rocky area. I would have liked to see it incorporated into the hole's design. Also on 7, there's a fairly large tree just past the current placement. I would've lengthened this hole a bit and hid the basket behind this solitary tree. This would've have spiced up the course just a little.
No tee pads.
Tee signs need to be refreshed.

Other Thoughts:

I thought the finishing hole , # 9, was interesting. It's a fairly simple little annie throw around a fairly large good sized tree. But at least, it provided a little variety on a course sorely lacking for both variety and creative/enjoyable holes. Most holes are pretty straight forward.

It is nice for Moses Lake to now have two courses. I like Blue Heron but that park gets really crowded on those hot central Washington summer days. I don't believe this park will get that kind of crowded.
