Finally a course in Yuba City 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 27, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Friendly staff, cart rental optional, mini golf and ball golf here too. Family friendly. Some challenging hole setups. Good layout. There is a Monday weekly and a Tournament to join once a month. Not a lot of ball golfers, so never have to wait on them.

Cons:

I will add them if I come across any. I suppose the hot summer heat. Plenty of trees to duck under though.

Other Thoughts:

Was impressed enough to join the Monday weekly.

Mallard Lake gets re-designed 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 16, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The course has come a long way since the valkrie kid reviewed it... It Has a much better layout that flows and is beginner friendly. The course now has 18 baskets. The course is being constantly upgraded and has much better tees and marking to follow the course.

Cons:

The course is still being fine tuned and has yet to get permanent tees

Other Thoughts:

The course is a very fun place to spend an afternoon playing golf with friend and rent a golf cart too. The re-alignment makes this course beginner friendly, but has great challenge for pro golfers as well. Now that the baskets are all in we will focus on new tees, signs and alternate pin locations.

Mallard Lake DGC Can Be Left To The Ducks! 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 13, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Mallard Lakes is a municipal golf course in Yuba City. They've decided to jump aboard with what many of the small golf courses are doing and that is, offering disc golf as part of their playing options. And like many of their municipal brothers, they're not quite getting it right.

First of all, this course is flat as a board. So most of the holes were 500 feet across a wide open fairway.

For my $6, I got a map that was absolutely unreadable. It had so many alternate tees and OBs marked, that I had no idea of where I was or where I was trying to go.

The baskets were Discatchers with tiny little numbers on the yellow band. Some did have an arrow pointing in the direction of the next tee ribbon but....The tee pads were little orange ribbons. They were about impossible to spot in the vastness of a golf course.

# 8 was finally a hole that showed a little personality. The basket is about 275' is out and is playing peek-a-boo from among four trees. I liked it. There is also a dry water hazard on the right.

Cons:

When I asked about a map, the kindly gentleman in the pro shop nicely loaned me the last remaining one in existence, making me swear to return it at the end of my round, owing to the fact that it was the one and only original. It was folded and obviously had been loaned out before. Doesn't this course have a copier? Or a computer?

The sprinklers were on at 7:45 am so it was kinda fun dodging them.

I never found the # 2 basket.

I think the # 3 basket was about 700' across a wide open expanse of lawn.

# 5 was about 500' across another wide, open expanse of green grass.

There were alternate little orange ribbons here and there, which just added to the navigational confusion. Some had little illegible markings on them. If you're going to charge me for a service (a round of disc golf), then at least provide me with decent and reasonable maps and navigational aids.

Other Thoughts:

This course left me nothing but frustrated. The nice gentlemen in the pro shop was very proud that this course had been designed by a pro player. They have this pro's picture on the cover of a disc golf magazine in the pro shop. I guess when you can throw 500', a 700' throw across a wide open fairway might seem interesting? I'm sorry but Mallard Lake has gotten the last $6 they will ever pull from my wallet.
