Mostly Mediocre, With A Few Standouts 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 22, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

- A relatively new 18-hole, dual-pin layout mixing a few open park-style holes with a majority of technical heavily- wooded exercises.
- The shorter A pins (which was the configuration in place when I played here) are mostly shorter, technical "hit your gap" style woods golf. Deceptively challenging in places, where a bad tee shot can easily lead to a blow up hole. I was cruising through pretty well until hole #12 ate my lunch, for example. Longer B pins add length and difficulty, occasionally bringing water into play more prominently, such as the creek between hole #13's A & B pins.
- Not many elevation changes, but what's there is used effectively. Hole #14's slightly downhill tunnel shot is the best of it, unless you count the steep drop-offs to the creek on hole #'s 15 & 18. Hole #3 is an open, downhill shot with pin positions at the edge of the woods.
- Solid amenities: descriptive, accurate tee signs show both pin positions, etc. Next tee signage throughout makes getting lost or turned around difficult. Decent flow that makes sense. Concrete tee pads, practice basket, map kiosk, port-a-john, etc.

Cons:

- Hole #7's A Pin Position is too close to Hole #3's tee pad. Discs hyzering out on RHBH on this short hole can easily punch through the thin line of trees "guarding" #3's tee.
- Sections of the wooded holes can get a bit soggy, although aggressive mulching mitigates a lot of the worst. It doesn't, however, knock down the amount of mosquitoes out here. Bring spray.
- Smashed glass, litter in one or two places already. Let's help keep the courses clean and PACK IN/ PACK OUT!
- Holes #15 & 18 play alongside a steep-banked creek, that may make errant disc retrieval a lost battle. Some might see this as a pro, as it really ups the pucker factor, and adds to the difficulty. Less experienced discers may see this as excessively punishing.
- A couple of the "long" B Pin positions have oddly shaped fairways. Hole #7B s a 90-degree affair; hole #15 is an improbable "J" shot. Both are pretty narrow and feel a bit forced.
- Not a lot to distinguish some of the shorter wooded holes from each other.
- Directly next to a "water reclamation" plant, which adds a certain spicy bouquet at times, when the wind hits just right.

Other Thoughts:

- Some really fun, memorable shots mixed in with some utterly forgettable averageness. Nothing to avoid, nothing to go out of your way for...I wish I could have played the longer layout, to better judge some of the longer oddly-shaped holes.
- Seems popular with the locals, so job well done!
