McCarty Ranch Is So Vanilla It’s French!McCarty Ranch Is So Vanilla It’s French! 2+ years

Pros:

Okay, I don't exactly know what that means but it obviously is not a compliment. Remember there is no gas for fifty miles once you enter the park. Okay, that's a slight exaggeration but it does seem like an awfully long drive through the park back to the course.

When you finally reach the beginning of the course, you'll find a small kiosk with one small course map on it. The tee pads are concrete while the signs are short poles with the number on them. The baskets are the DGA models with the always hard to read red numbers. There are next tee arrows and they are greatly appreciated.

I found the course to be remarkable mundane. The terrain is the same on every single hole. You're playing on the lake bank with the grass about six inches high. There are a very few trees here and there. The water is present and is pleasant to look at. # 6 does feature a water carry and if you cut the corner you'll only be needing about a 175' carry.

There is some elevation to play with. I think my favorite hole was # 16, which has you throwing to a basket down by the water with only the top showing. Unfortunately, the wind was blowing so hard that any throw near the water was scary.

Cons:

Strong wind blowing.

Just not a lot to work with here.

Uninspiring layout.

Terrain doesn't change. Many holes feels just like the one before.

Other Thoughts:

Sorry, this course didn't get my juices flowing. It really wasn't any fun playing here with the strong wind blowing something fierce. Too many similar holes. Too much similar terrain. Too many similar holes and too little shot shaping is required. I would not be interested in returning.

Pros:

Great 18 holes, new layout, 2nd hole is now what was 3, and so on. Some holes have hills and hidden lines. fairly open for the most part. Some baskets are guarded by trees and brush. Grass cut by city I believe, so it well taken care of.

Cons:

It is a perverse, the wildlife was there 1st. Water on some holes can take your disc's.

Other Thoughts:

concrete pads coming soon.

Pros:

Very nice park, lots of water for wildlife viewing. Grass was cut and holes were wide open. With some signs this place will rock.

Cons:

Very difficult for beginners with the wind and water. We lost 3 discs here. The natural tees and signs were not so clearly understood.

Other Thoughts:

Next time I visit the area I will give this place another go!

Remote And Rustic 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 31, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

One of the first things that I noticed was the isolation of this course. I'm used to heavily played courses in more urban environments. This course is out there. We played on a Tuesday morning and had the whole course to ourselves. Heck, we had the whole park to ourselves. It was nice.

The course has concrete tees and decent baskets.

The course has a nice mix of hole types and lengths with lakes in play and also some up and down hills. Recent heavy rains have turned hole 10 into almost an island hole.

The course is absolutely gorgeous. Lakes, trees, hills, critters etc.

Cons:

I wonder if they are going to mow the grass on this course, or just leave it natural. Keep an eye on your discs. Most of the grass like plants here are tall and thick and some are even worse.

There are some big gators lurking in the lakes.

I wouldn't recommend this course to beginners or those with weak constitutions. You will be slogging through tall grass, climbing up and down hills, and throwing at the water a lot.

Other Thoughts:

I like this course. It has to be one of the most remote courses in Florida. It really is in the middle of nowhere.

Pros:

Wide open on most holes. Some water hazards and some longer holes where you can really let loose. The Club hosting this course has done an excellent job in improving it in a little bit of time. I am very impressed with the progress.

Cons:

The only Con I can see is the drive to get there. Still well worth the trip,

Other Thoughts:

This is easily a family friendly Park with Walking Trails, Biking trails, Lakes and a work in progress. Cant wait to play it again.

Tons of Potential 2+ years drive by

Pros:

Wide open shots mixed with longer holes allows you to throw some bombs. Elevation and water offer unique challenges. Very fun and well layed out course.

Cons:

This course was practically brand new when I played it. Trails need to be worked in and paths and fairways need to be mowed. Beware of fishermen near the shorelines. The winds can be your friend and your enemy as the course is wide open. Be cautious of wildlife as this area is a preserve.
