Fun junior course, pitch and putt family style drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 11, 2023 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This is a great starter course for junior players, practice your approach game, and family fun. Short wooded holes with a good challenge on each hole. This course was installed by myself and a few friends from the local Spokane area players. Used for USYSGA program through the school.

Cons:

Since covid the school has not really done any maintenance so the course designer (myself) has to do it by himself. It is tough since it's on school property so I'm limited to what I can do.

Other Thoughts:

When playing this course, please keep in mind it is for juniors, beginners, and families. Great for more advanced players to work on your approach game.

Medical Lake Middle School Course Is Excellent For Beginners! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 10, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course here in Medical Lake is listed as another of the Spokane area stable of junior courses. Most of the other junior courses are three or four baskets set in city parks. They all have great signs and baskets. The difference here at Medical Lake is there are nine holes and they are set in cool wooded area. Granted, the distances are still rec length but there is a certain cool vibe to this course. There is a nice balance of annie vs. anhyser throws. Basically, this adds up to this being a great little beginner course. All the fun little Ace runs will be an added attraction for experienced players.

The layout is a little discombobulated with holes 3-4-5 branching off through the woods . This little detour would be confusing without the course map. The baskets are these sexy blue Veteran models. The tee signs are set in a wooden frame and covered in Fiberglas. The pads are natural but okay for this beginner course.

The course is next to the Medical Lake Middle School and I don't know if this is school property or not? What I do know is there is no way the P.E. teacher would bring his/her classes over here. He/she would not be able to supervise the class in this wooded, spread out area. What could possibly happen? How about sexual abuse, drugs, booze, child abduction, injury, rape and unwanted pregnancy?

Cons:

Cons? It's a total beginner/recreational course.

On # 6, your walk back to the # 7 tee, takes you right up the # 6 fairway.

Natural tees.

Lack of challenge for serious players.

Semi-confusing branch off for holes 3-4-5.

Other Thoughts:

This is a awesome course for beginners and rec players. It's short but each hole is interesting. There is variety. It's fun. It's got some technical, especially for lesser skilled players. Better players will enjoy the possible Aces.

One problem i see here is because Medical Lake doesn't have any other courses, it might have been more beneficial to the disc golfing community for this course to be more of a middle of the road course, appealing to a wider range of players. On the other hand, since it's only about 14 miles to Spokane's two great competitive courses, High Bridge and Downriver, maybe having this little beginner course here is a good thing. Either way, this is the type of course that should provide a positive introductory experience to those folks just discovering disc golf.

challenge them kids 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 16, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

+tee signs & course sign
+veteran baskets
+loops

Cons:

-no benches
-no restroom
-undefined dirt tees
-rough (hard to find, but kids will get there & it's dense)
-too many rhbh hyzer tee shots
-navigation (not that hard with a map)

Other Thoughts:

if i had this course at my elementary school growing up, i might be traveling the country competing at a pro level. i hope the p.e. teacher takes the kids out to play this.
for those elementary kids this will be a good challenge; teaching them shot shaping, drive placement, and elevated putting.
there are some mounds that are used to give this course some elevation (none over 6ft); one elevated tee, a couple baskets on mounds, & the signature hole #4 mounted up in a rock (might be too elevated for retrieval by short kids).
for intermediate+ it will be a pitch & putt or ace run with holes between 130-230ft, but it still has lines to hit. there are trees on every hole; no straight shots to the basket.
the strange(homeless?) lady, random debris, and unmowed dead grass gave me the feeling of abandoned land when i was there.
i played on a sunday, so the parking lot for the school was empty & that's where i parked; i walked the fence line the wrong way & ended up starting on hole 5 (go down the street behind the fence for hole 1, not down the fence line).
a bit out of the way for the course bagger, but a great little course for those just starting disc golf.
