A course on the fringes of town 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 22, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

+7 baskets. Homemade but they seem to work reasonably. They are starting to rust so that might not last forever.
+Tees are marked.
+The area where the course is seems to be well taken care of. It was well mowed.
+Shouldn't lose a disc here.

Cons:

-No signage at all beyond hole #. Some of the holes are fairly long and/or blind so it would be nice to know more.
-Natural tees. They are in ok shape but still not ideal.
-Two baskets missing. I think that some other sports field was prioritized over them and they never went back in.
-Very flat.
-The layout overall isn't great. Hole 1 and 2 are pretty straightforward. Hole 3 plays around most of the baseball field and the basket is tucked in a weird spot by the fence. Then it's hard to find hole 4 and beyond. The course just plays along the fringes of the other athletic fields and is clearly an afterthought.
-Very few trees on the course and most of them are on the edges of hole and don't really affect your throws at all. Most throws are very open and not fun.
-Hole 9 ends fairly far away from hole 1. A decent walk back to the car.
-Course would be unplayable during many athletic practices and maybe even during school.

Other Thoughts:

+I had better hopes for this course with no reviews.
+Like many small towns, there just isn't a great place to put a disc golf course. Merino is definitely in that category. Eastern CO is definitely not a natural disc golf habitat either. They would need to plant lots of trees or find another creative way to make the course more interesting.
+This course really isn't worth a stop unless you are working on your course count. It isn't too far off I-80 if that's your goal. It wasn't a course that I hated playing but didn't really have fun here either. Just kind of a "meh" type of experience.
