FRISBIGOLFVOLLUR MIDHUSASKOGI Needs A Lot Of Work! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 25, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

The disc golf course MIDHUSASKOGI sits just 3 1/2 km off of Iceland's main Ring Road. The road to the course is gravel. The area here seems to be a vacation resort of some kind with plenty of rental cabin's. The course sits in this small recreation area with a very cool jumping apparatus, a zip line, a putt putt golf course and the disc course. The jumping apparatus and the zip line are very cool and look like great fun. The putt putt course and disc course are pretty stale.

As you drive to the course, you'll find a nice colored map across the road from the red house. The little 5 hole course plays three holes out from road, then # 4 plays across the property before the fifth hole plays back in the direction of the red house. The course is set in this area of small thick trees about 6-7 feet tall. There were once trails carved throughout but they mostly have been taken over by the jungle.

The course is very short as in # 1 being 24 m or about 78'. There are some small natural tee pads. I found four of them. Signs 1-4-5 are still surviving. # 2 is totally scraped off and # 3 is illegible and almost totally scraped off.

Some baskets are visible through the small trees, some completely blind. Your best play here would probably be to throw an overhand on every hole. Good luck locating your disc afterward.

I'm not sure if I played # 4 correctly. The trail led me to a wooden observation stand up on a small hill. The # 4 basket was just sitting down there by itself. If this wasn't the tee pad, it should have been. But I saw no sign of a sign ever being there.

I actually stumbled onto the # 5 pad. The tee sign was intact but probably only because I was the first player to ever actually find it in the thickness.

Cons:

Cons? Yes Thor, there are a few.

Only five holes.

Signs 2-3 and possibly 4 are either missing or the info has been scraped off.

Crummy little natural pads.

Overgrown? Everything is difficult to locate in the small, thickness of trees.

Pitch and putt length and challenge.

The height of the trees makes throwing anything but an overhand challengingly.

Other Thoughts:

Laugardalur DGC was probably designed and installed for the enjoyment of the vacationers. However, with the overgrowth, no-one really want's to play here. This course could be very playable with some serious trimming and small tree removal.

So my second Icelandic course was a bigger disappointment than my first. I hope to find a more enjoyable course somewhere on this island.
